Typical Day in the Life

The Tax Resource Management Manager is responsible for aligning tax talent with client and regulatory demands by overseeing capacity, utilization, and staffing across tax practices and regions. This role partners closely with Tax Practice Leaders to support profitable delivery during peak compliance cycles while balancing workload equity, professional development, and retention within the tax department. The position plays a critical role in optimizing tax engagement staffing to meet filing deadlines, manage seasonality, and support long-term growth of the tax practice.

  • Manages end-to-end resource allocation for tax teams, including compliance, consulting, and specialty tax engagements.
  • Oversees staffing of tax professionals to client engagements based on availability, technical tax expertise, filing deadlines, geographic requirements, and engagement budgets.
  • Forecasts busy season and off-cycle resource needs, identifying hiring, contracting, or redeployment strategies aligned with tax utilization targets.
  • Partners with Tax Practice Leaders and Regional Tax Leadership to advise on staffing strategy, seasonal demand, and capacity constraints.
  • Supports Resource Management Senior Associates in resolving tax-specific scheduling conflicts and deadline compression.
  • Identifies risks related to tax resource planning, including skill gaps and overtime exposure, and recommends mitigation strategies.
  • Produces and interprets tax utilization and variance reports to support engagement economics and planning.
  • Monitors workload equity across tax teams, including overtime, weekend work, and travel demands during busy season.
  • Ensures consistency and compliance with tax resource management standards and engagement policies.
  • Participates in tax staff evaluations to understand technical strengths and specialization for improved staffing decisions.
  • Serves as manager or coach for Resource Management Senior Associates supporting the tax practice.
  • Collaborates with Resource Management Leadership, Tax Leadership, Finance, HR, and Recruiting on tax workforce planning and seasonal hiring strategies.

Who You Are

  • Associate's degree or higher in Business, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a CPA firm with significant exposure to tax services.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting tax engagement staffing or seasonal workforce planning in a professional services environment.
  • Resource Management Certified Professional (RMCP) preferred.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to balance tax deadlines, utilization goals, and employee well-being.
  • Understanding of tax practice structures, compliance cycles, and filing deadlines.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with workforce planning and reporting tools.
  • Ability to lead through influence and collaborate across multiple tax teams and geographic regions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in high-pressure busy season environments.

$85,000-$155,000. Our compensation philosophy emphasizes competitive and equitable pay. Eide Bailly complies with all local/state regulations regarding displaying ranges. Final compensation decisions are dependent upon factors such as geography, experience, education, skills, and internal equity.
