What is a Remote Machine Learning Robotics job?

A Remote Machine Learning Robotics job involves developing and implementing machine learning algorithms to control and improve robotic systems, all while working from a remote location. Professionals in this field use artificial intelligence techniques to enable robots to learn from data and adapt to new tasks. They collaborate with teams virtually, leveraging cloud-based tools and simulation environments to design, test, and deploy robotic solutions. This role typically requires strong programming skills, knowledge of robotics frameworks, and experience with machine learning models.

What is the difference between Remote Machine Learning Robotics vs Remote Data Scientist?

AspectRemote Machine Learning RoboticsRemote Data Scientist
Required CredentialsDegree in Robotics, Computer Science, or related fields; experience with ML algorithms and robotics platformsDegree in Data Science, Statistics, or related fields; proficiency in ML, statistics, and programming
Work EnvironmentHands-on with robotics hardware, simulation environments, and software developmentData analysis, modeling, and visualization primarily on software platforms
Employer & Industry UsageRobotics companies, manufacturing, autonomous vehicles, research labsTech firms, finance, healthcare, research institutions

Remote Machine Learning Robotics focuses on developing intelligent systems that integrate robotics hardware with machine learning algorithms, often requiring hands-on hardware work. In contrast, Remote Data Scientists primarily analyze data and build models using software tools. Both roles involve ML expertise but differ in work environment and industry applications.

How do remote machine learning robotics professionals typically collaborate with hardware teams when working off-site?

Remote machine learning robotics professionals often collaborate closely with hardware teams through regular virtual meetings, shared documentation, and cloud-based development environments. They use simulation tools to test algorithms before deployment and rely on video calls or live streams to observe hardware tests in real time. Effective communication and detailed feedback are essential to ensure that software and hardware integration runs smoothly, despite working from different locations. This collaborative approach helps address issues quickly and keeps projects on track.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Machine Learning Robotics Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Machine Learning Robotics Engineer, you need a solid background in robotics, machine learning algorithms, programming (Python, C++), and typically a degree in computer science, robotics, or a related field. Familiarity with robotics frameworks (like ROS), machine learning libraries (such as TensorFlow or PyTorch), and experience with cloud platforms or remote collaboration tools are highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, initiative, and effective remote communication skills help you excel in distributed teams. These competencies enable you to develop intelligent robotic systems efficiently, collaborate across locations, and drive innovation in a rapidly evolving field.

Job description

Company Overview
We are a world-class team of professionals who deliver next generation technology and products in robotic and autonomous platforms, ground, soldier, and maritime systems in 50+ locations world-wide. Much of our work contributes to innovative research in the fields of sensor science, signal processing, data fusion, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and augmented reality (AR).
QinetiQ US's dedicated experts in defense, aerospace, security, and related fields all work together to explore new ways of protecting the American Warfighter, Security Forces, and Allies. Being a part of QinetiQ US means being central to the safety and security of the world around us. Partnering with our customers, we help save lives; reduce risks to society; and maintain the global infrastructure on which we all depend.
Why Join QinetiQ US?
If you have the courage to take on a wide variety of complex challenges, then you will experience a unique working environment where innovative teams blend different perspectives, disciplines, and technologies to discover new ways of solving complex problems. In our diverse and inclusive environment, you can be authentic, feel valued, be respected, and realize your full potential. QinetiQ US will support you with workplace flexibility, a commitment to the health and well-being of you and your family and provide opportunities to work with a purpose. We are committed to supporting your success in both your professional and personal lives.
Position Overview
Join us in our support to the US Space Force (HQ USSF) Commercial Satellite Communication (COMSATCOM) Office (CSCO), where you will help shape the future of assured, resilient SATCOM for our warfighters and mission partners. As a key member of a highly collaborative, mission-focused team, you will apply your expertise to help deliver innovative commercial SATCOM capabilities, integrate a transformative COMSATCOM business model into the broader SATCOM enterprise, and translate complex operational needs into effective, affordable solutions. In this role, you will work directly with COMSATCOM customers and stakeholders, providing trusted guidance, insightful analysis, and clear recommendations that drive real-world impact in a rapidly evolving space domain. Job duties include:
Responsibilities
  • Collect, integrate, and validate COMSATCOM usage, inventory, operational, financial, and capability data from GFI, non-GFI, and other structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Develop and maintain predictive models, statistical analyses, and stochastic forecasting methodologies to assess current and future COMSATCOM demand, utilization, capacity, and operational risk.
  • Apply advanced analytical and AI/ML techniques - including regression, classification, clustering, anomaly detection, machine learning, deep learning, and generative AI methods - to identify trends, drivers, and decision-relevant insights.
  • Leverage DoD-approved AI and generative AI platforms, including genai.mil and equivalent NIPR/SIPR AI environments, to accelerate analytical workflows and support production of executive-ready analytic products; apply responsible AI principles including bias detection, model interpretability, and assumptions documentation.
  • Design and implement reproducible analytic workflows, data pipelines, and model validation processes to ensure transparency, traceability, and repeatability; partner with data engineers on pipeline operationalization and production deployment.
  • Translate complex operational and business questions into analytical models, simulations, and AI/ML-enabled decision-support tools for USSF CSCO leadership and mission partners.
  • Create executive-level visualizations, dashboards, and briefings that communicate complex technical and AI-generated findings to senior stakeholders in an understandable and actionable manner.
  • Maintain awareness of global, regional, and situational SATCOM trends and incorporate them into forecasts, scenario analyses, and strategic assessments.
  • Support analytic studies with COMSATCOM SMEs, including cost analyses, business case analyses, market research, commercial capability assessments, and courses of action comparisons.
  • Develop metrics, analytical frameworks, and model-based decision aids supporting planning, portfolio management, and leadership data calls with speed, accuracy, and traceability.
  • Provide technical leadership on data science best practices, AI governance, and model lifecycle management; respond to ad hoc analytic taskings from senior leadership with timely, defensible analyses.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in data science, data analytics, operations research, computer science, economics, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Operations Research, Economics, or a related field.
  • Secret Clearance required. #qinetiqclearedjob
