Job description

Job Description
The APL Logistics Business Developer will focus on developing new business logo. The role is responsible for lead generation, relationship management, opportunity identification, solutions development and closing of deals. The resource will align activities to support the strategic initiatives of APL Logistics and will play a lead role in designing solutions accordingly. Solutions will be comprised of these key initiatives:
  • Expansion of services include international and domestic freight services, Order Management Services, transloading/distribution, and associated supply chain solutions.
  • Identification of opportunities in the markets we serve (North America)
  • Support new product initiatives such as regional distribution/mixing hub concepts, data analytics services, and others.

Role requires previous experience and knowledge of international/domestic freight, solutions consulting and design principles and methodologies, preferably in the logistics or consulting market
Responsibilities
  • Business Development activities including:
    • Develop sales pipeline
    • Develop pursuit plan from qualify to close for target accounts
    • Orchestrate solutions development with internal SME
    • Conduct face-to-face and other communication protocol discussions with prospects at all levels in their organization
    • Following up on commitments and issues that arise during account pursuit
    • Communicate customer and competitive developments that relate to assigned sales territory and the company
    • Manage CRM activities and other administrative deliverables
  • Support CRM activities including updating of calendars, opportunity pipeline, customer profile information, contact information and other tasks.
  • Lead business development effort:
    • Organizing cross functional resources/SME for proposal development and customer engagement
    • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in local trade, professional and civic associations as a representative of the company; reviews professional publications' establishes networks
    • Lead/Participate in the post sales implementation team

Keys Results:
  • Meet/Exceed new business financial and volume budget
  • Support all administrative activities including updates account profiles and target account programs
  • Stay within travel and entertainment budget assigned

Qualifications
  • Preferred Minimum 5 years of industry experience, and experience in professional selling capacity, with national account experience
  • Intimate knowledge of ocean and domestic freight, US Intermodal network and distribution/warehousing is a plus
  • Proven customer service skills to develop, maintain and enhance customer relationships
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with multi-functional and diverse backgrounds
  • Working knowledge of PC-based applications and Electronic Information Systems
  • Exceptional negotiation skills, MS Office applications and general administrative functions

Candidates must be within 250 miles of an APL Logistics facility or office.
The typical starting salary range for this position is: $98,280 - $140,400.
The actual salary offer will take into account multiple factors including skills, experience, and location. Please note that the salary details listed in role postings reflect the base salary only, not total compensation, which includes bonus and benefits.

Work Location Requirement - APL Logistics:
Employees residing within 25 miles of an APL Logistics Hub Office (AZ, FL, MI, NC, OR) are required to follow a designated Hybrid schedule as described below: Fully on-site, or fully remote schedules are determined based on role and business needs.
• Hybrid employees must report to the office 8 days per month, scheduled by their supervisor.
• Warehouse roles are typically fully on-site.
• Candidates outside the 25-mile radius may be considered for fully remote roles, depending on business needs.
Remote work requires full compliance with company policies, including workspace standards, timekeeping, and communication protocols. Commuting costs are not reimbursed. Adherence to this policy is a condition of employment.
