Job description

Midwest Tankermen is seeking Shore Tankermen to serve as a crucial component in our nation's supply chain. Our Tankermen work on inland tank barges conducting critical operations and are responsible for protecting the environment by ensuring the safe transfer of liquid hazardous cargo from barge to shore.

NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED

Starting Pay Range: $25+/hour with growth opportunities. $30+/hour if applicant already holds Merchant Mariners Credential (MMC)


All applicants must be willing to work on-call and outdoors year-round. Additionally, applicants must be willing to work morning, afternoon and night shifts. 


This position offers full benefits, mileage reimbursement and potential for overtime and promotions.


Major Responsibilities

1. Barge Person In Charge (PIC) and Customer Service – Maintain the security of the barge and adhere to regulatory and operational standards.

2. Product Stewardship – Ensure appropriate handling of transfers and of products.

3. Barge Maintenance and Stewardship – Maintain the reliability of existing and new terminal assets through an established corrective and preventative maintenance program.

4. Excellence – Complete operations with the highest level of safety, quality and efficiency at all times.


Specific Responsibilities

1. Transferring and transloading liquid cargo.

2. Complete established preventative maintenance or corrective repairs on liquid tank barges.

3. Conduct pre-transfer inspections.

4. Monitor product levels, temperature, and condition.

5. Perform general housekeeping at the barge dock.


Additional responsibilities include:

1. Perform other duties as required and directed by management.

2. Carry out and the Business Philosophy, Code of Conduct, Customer Service, and Mission of Midwest Tankermen, Inc.

Education and Experience

Valid driver’s license and favorable work references are required.


Physical requirements of the job include climbing ladders and stairs, repetitive bending and squatting, and lifting equipment from 10-50 pounds. This position requires outdoor work under all weather conditions.  Since the use of a respirator mask may be required, Shore Tankermen must always be clean-shaven to ensure an effective face seal. All applicants must pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen.
