Remote Linux information

What is a Remote Linux?

A Remote Linux job involves managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Linux-based systems from a remote location. Professionals in these roles may work as system administrators, DevOps engineers, or cloud engineers, ensuring server uptime, security, and performance. Common tasks include configuring servers, automating processes, and deploying applications. These jobs require expertise in Linux command-line tools, scripting languages, and networking. Many companies hire remote Linux professionals to support cloud environments, web servers, and enterprise systems.

What does a Remote Linux do?

As a Remote Linux professional, your daily tasks may include server provisioning, managing user accounts, monitoring system health, deploying software updates, and troubleshooting network or application issues. You may also work on automation projects using scripting languages or configuration management tools to streamline system operations. Collaboration is often virtual, so you'll join regular meetings, coordinate with development or DevOps teams, and document processes or incidents thoroughly. Depending on your employer, you may participate in on-call rotations or respond to urgent incidents to ensure uptime and security. This variety of responsibilities provides both technical challenges and opportunities for skill development in a dynamic environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Linux position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Remote Linux role, you need a strong understanding of Linux system administration, shell scripting, networking concepts, and troubleshooting skills, often supported by a degree in computer science or relevant certifications such as CompTIA Linux+ or RHCSA. Proficiency with configuration management tools (like Ansible or Puppet), remote monitoring solutions, and cloud platforms is commonly required. Strong communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving abilities are key soft skills that help remote professionals excel. These skills ensure reliable system performance, efficient collaboration with distributed teams, and successful problem resolution in remote environments.

As North America's premier window covering company, we're committed to creating the Best Experience for our associates, consumers and end users, business partners, and communities. So, if you're excited about the thought of a Best Experience career with a team focused on creating Best Experiences for all, we want to hear from you!

Position Summary:

We are seeking a DevOps Cloud Engineer to join our dynamic team and own the cloud infrastructure, automation, and reliability behind our web portals and SaaS solutions! The ideal candidate is passionate about IoT and Home Automation products, thrives on automating everything, and has a proven track record of building and operating secure, scalable cloud platforms. This role combines infrastructure architecture, CI/CD pipeline engineering, platform reliability, and hands-on development in a cloud-first environment, leveraging AWS services.

Key Responsibilities:

Cloud Infrastructure & Architecture:

  • Design, build, and operate secure, scalable AWS infrastructure supporting web portals, SaaS platforms, and IoT device fleets.
  • Manage infrastructure as code using Terraform and AWS CloudFormation, with version-controlled, peer-reviewed changes.
  • Architect for high availability, fault tolerance, cost optimization, and disaster recovery, including backup and restore strategies.
  • Administer core AWS services such as EC2, ECS/Fargate, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, Route 53, and CloudFront.

CI/CD & Automation:

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for application and infrastructure deployments (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, AWS CodePipeline).
  • Drive automation of build, test, deployment, and rollback processes to enable frequent, low-risk releases.
  • Standardize containerization with Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes or ECS across environments.
  • Develop automation scripts and internal tooling in Python and Bash.

Monitoring, Reliability & Performance:

  • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting using AWS CloudWatch and related observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog).
  • Define and track SLOs/SLIs; lead incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.
  • Continuously tune performance and right-size infrastructure to balance reliability and cost.

Security & Compliance:

  • Apply best practices for data security, identity and access management (IAM), secrets management, and network security in SaaS environments.
  • Automate security scanning, patching, and compliance checks within pipelines and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with InfoSec teams to maintain a secure, auditable cloud architecture.

Collaboration & Enablement:

  • Partner with software engineers to design deployable, observable, cloud-native applications and improve developer experience.
  • Establish and enforce DevOps standards, best practices, and documentation across the engineering team.
  • Mentor developers on cloud, containerization, and automation practices, fostering a culture of shared operational ownership.
  • Write technical documents, runbooks, and operational guidelines.
  • Use project management tools (Trello) to track and communicate project status.
  • Stay current on emerging cloud and DevOps technologies and champion innovative solutions.
Requirements

What we are looking for:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience in a DevOps, Cloud, or Site Reliability Engineering role supporting production SaaS environments.
  • Strong expertise in AWS cloud services and architecture (EC2, S3, Fargate/ECS, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM).
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform and/or CloudFormation).
  • Strong understanding of Linux administration, Docker, Kubernetes, and virtualization.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and release automation.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation with Python and Bash.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases (MySQL, SQL Server), including backups, replication, and performance basics.
  • Solid grasp of networking fundamentals (DNS, load balancing, TLS, VPNs, firewalls).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Preferred

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, or infrastructure roles.
  • AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer).
  • Experience supporting IoT ecosystems, device fleets, or home automation products.
  • Familiarity with application stacks such as Python, PHP, NodeJS, or C#/.NET, sufficient to support and troubleshoot deployments.
  • Experience with observability platforms (Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, ELK).
  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies and project management principles.
