Job Title: Linux / Hypervisor Engineer
Location: Remote - USA
Employment Type: Part-time
Pay Range: $60 - $70
- Role Overview/Job Responsibilities
We are seeking an experienced Linux / Hypervisor Engineer to support an enterprise infrastructure team through the end of the year. This role will primarily focus on performing Linux OS upgrades and VMware-to-Nutanix VM migrations during scheduled after-hours maintenance windows.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable working independently during nights and weekends and be flexible with occasional changes to scheduled maintenance windows.
- Key Responsibilities
  • Perform Linux operating system upgrades, primarily from Linux 7.9 to 8.10 or 9.x.
  • Migrate virtual machines from VMware clusters to Nutanix infrastructure.
  • Execute infrastructure changes during scheduled overnight maintenance windows.
  • Support and troubleshoot Linux OS and virtualization environments during migrations and upgrades.
  • Validate system functionality, application availability, and VM health following upgrades and migrations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues encountered during maintenance activities.
  • Follow established change management, documentation, and operational procedures.
  • Coordinate with the overnight infrastructure team and other technical teams as needed.
  • Provide after-hours and weekend support as required by maintenance schedules.

- Required Qualifications
  • Strong hands-on experience with Linux system administration.
  • Experience performing Linux OS upgrades, particularly RHEL/CentOS 7.x to 8.x/9.x or equivalent.
  • Strong experience with VMware virtualization and VM migrations.
  • Experience with Nutanix environments and VM migration is highly preferred.
  • Understanding of virtualization, networking, storage, and enterprise infrastructure concepts.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently during overnight maintenance windows.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends with some schedule flexibility.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
Schedule
Most maintenance windows are expected to begin between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM, with occasional exceptions. Flexibility for additional after-hours and weekend work is required.
