What is a remote life science?

A Remote Life Science job involves working in the fields of biology, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or related disciplines from a remote location. These roles can include research, data analysis, regulatory affairs, medical writing, or sales within the life sciences industry. Advances in technology allow professionals to conduct virtual experiments, collaborate with teams globally, and analyze complex biological data remotely. Many remote positions require strong communication skills, proficiency in digital tools, and a solid understanding of scientific principles. Companies hiring for these roles may include pharmaceutical firms, biotech startups, academic institutions, and research organizations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a remote life science position?

To excel in a Remote Life Science role, candidates typically need a background in biology, chemistry, or a related field along with strong analytical and research skills. Familiarity with industry-standard tools like electronic lab notebooks, statistical analysis software (e.g., R, Python), and relevant certifications such as a Life Sciences degree or specialized credentials may be required. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, time management, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration and project deadlines. These qualifications are vital for producing high-quality scientific work while effectively collaborating within virtual, multidisciplinary teams.

What are the typical challenges of working remotely in a life science role?

One of the main challenges of working remotely in a Life Science role is maintaining effective communication and collaboration with team members who may be located in different time zones or regions. Remote professionals must also adapt to working independently with minimal supervision, ensuring they stay organized and meet deadlines for research, analysis, or reporting. Utilizing collaboration tools, project management platforms, and virtual meetings becomes essential to stay engaged with colleagues and up-to-date on project progress. Despite these challenges, remote roles offer enhanced flexibility and often allow for a greater focus on in-depth research or data analysis, contributing to both personal and professional growth in the life sciences field.

Job description

Job Overview:
Are you an educational visionary who believes that learning resources should be as joyful and intuitive as they are effective? A lot of EdTech products out there lack inspiration-but we aren't interested in building standard products.
As the Director of Learning Experience Design Science, you will champion the pedagogical vision for science across our science portfolio in collaboration with leaders from literacy and math. We are looking for a rare blend of creative product taste, deep analytical capability, and strong operational skills. You will lead a high-performing team of Learning Experience Designers to turn complex research on student learning into innovative, highly differentiated, impactful, and genuinely fun-to-use digital experiences.
This is a high-visibility leadership role requiring an innovator who can leverage both quantitative data insights and creative intuition to advance product excellence and drive measurable student outcomes.
Job Responsibilities:
Creative Product Innovation & Differentiation
  • Champion Product Taste: Set a high benchmark for efficacy, creativity, usability, and fun that comes from the intrinsic engagement of exploring scientific principles and solving problems.
  • Translate Vision to Artifacts: Work with a team of Learning Experience Designers to drive the development of engaging instructional artifacts (scopes, sequences, prototypes) that reflect learning science, standards-alignment, and equity-driven, culturally responsive pedagogy.
  • Drive Discovery: Partner with Product Management, Engineering, Creative Services, and others to design in partnership with end users for forward-looking initiatives, driving the organization's capacity to design and refine our solutions based on real feedback from teachers and students.

Content Leadership
  • Create Learning Experiences: Coach and support your team in creating the content for learning resources and experiences.
  • Champion Formative Research: Establish robust frameworks for content creation, gathering feedback to inform and improve resources.
  • Leverage Learning Science: Work with a team of Learning Experience Designers to create learning design briefs, logic models, and support post-release research done by our efficacy team to prove our products work.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Marketing and Go-to-Market teams to ensure our product narratives authentically reflect our unique learning philosophy and market-leading positioning.

Culture & Operational Leadership
  • Nurture Talent: Manage, coach, and inspire LXD team members, fostering an inclusive culture focused on collaboration, pedagogical excellence, and innovation.
  • Scale with Precision: Manage capacity planning, project budgets, and external vendors. Optimize workflows for multi-format content creation, including the innovative use of AI tools.

Job Requirements:
  • Experience: 8+ years in learning experience design or educational content development.
  • 3+ years leading or managing teams in an iterative, fast-paced product development environment.
  • 3+ years of K-12 classroom teaching experience (or equivalent applied experience).
  • The Analytical Edge: Demonstrated experience using data, analytics, and codesign to guide product iterations and design decisions.
  • Creative Portfolio: A proven track record of conceptualizing and launching highly engaging, interactive digital learning experiences.
  • Domain & Leadership Expertise: Deep knowledge of national/state academic standards, the K-12 competitive landscape, and experience managing external vendors or large-scale content pipelines.
  • Leadership experience within an EdTech company or modern educational publishing house.
  • Experience designing specifically for digital platforms
