Remote Lidar Data Processing information

What are some common challenges faced in remote lidar data processing, and how can they be overcome?

Professionals working in remote Lidar data processing often encounter challenges such as managing large datasets, ensuring data accuracy, and troubleshooting software or hardware compatibility issues. Effective organization and use of cloud-based storage solutions can help handle large volumes of data efficiently. Additionally, staying up-to-date with the latest processing software and regularly participating in team meetings or online forums can aid in resolving technical problems and maintaining data quality. Proactive communication with team members also ensures smooth collaboration, even in a remote work setting.

What is remote lidar data processing?

Remote LiDAR data processing involves handling and analyzing LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data from a location other than where the data was collected. Professionals use specialized software to process large datasets, extract features like terrain models or vegetation, and generate 2D or 3D representations of landscapes. This remote work setup allows teams to collaborate globally, efficiently process data for industries like mapping, forestry, and urban planning, and deliver results without being physically present at the survey site.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote lidar data processing?

To thrive as a Remote Lidar Data Processing Specialist, you need a solid background in geospatial sciences, data analysis, and remote sensing, often supported by a relevant degree such as geography, GIS, or engineering. Familiarity with specialized software like LAStools, ArcGIS, and Global Mapper, as well as experience with data formats such as LAS and point cloud processing, is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for ensuring data accuracy and collaborating with team members. These skills and qualifications are important because they enable precise data interpretation, efficient workflow, and the delivery of high-quality geospatial products to clients.

What is the difference between Remote Lidar Data Processing vs Remote GIS Analyst?

AspectRemote Lidar Data ProcessingRemote GIS Analyst
Required CredentialsTypically requires GIS or remote sensing certifications, technical skills in lidar softwareRequires GIS certifications, spatial analysis skills, and often a degree in geography or related field
Work EnvironmentPrimarily technical, focused on lidar data handling and processing softwareMore analytical, involving spatial data analysis, mapping, and reporting
Industry UsageUsed in surveying, mapping, environmental monitoring, infrastructure planningApplied in urban planning, environmental management, resource allocation

Remote Lidar Data Processing focuses on handling and analyzing lidar point cloud data, while Remote GIS Analysts interpret spatial data for decision-making. Both roles require GIS knowledge but differ in technical focus and application areas.

Job description

PDMI is looking to add a Senior Data Engineer to our team! This position is responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and supporting enterprise data integration, reporting, and analytics solutions. The Senior Data Engineer plays a key role in modernizing the organization's data ecosystem by transitioning legacy SQL Server and SSRS solutions to a scalable, cloud-based architecture centered on Amazon Redshift, AWS data services, and Tableau. This position develops scalable ETL pipelines, data warehouse solutions, governed data products, and secure data delivery capabilities that enable reliable enterprise reporting, analytics, and self-service access to trusted business information.
Since 1984, PDMI has provided pharmacy data processing and other flexible, scalable solutions to help our clients meet their business objectives. We offer transparent, pass-through pharmacy processing and other services for private label Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), vertically integrated health plans and hospital systems. In addition to Pharmacy Benefit Administrative Services, we offer 340B Administration, Hospice and Long-Term Care Services.
Why Join Us:
  • Best Employer: PDMI was voted Best Employer in Ohio for the 5th consecutive year in 2025!
  • Meaningful Work: Contribute to improving healthcare quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborative Environment: Work with passionate professionals who share your drive.
  • Exciting Challenges: Every day brings new opportunities to excel.
  • Flexible Work: Fully remote opportunity with a company that cares.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, optimize, and support scalable ETL pipelines and data integration solutions that enable enterprise reporting, analytics, and data delivery.
  • Develop and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, data transformations, and data models across Amazon Redshift and Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Support the modernization of legacy SQL Server and SSRS reporting solutions by migrating data pipelines, reporting processes, and analytics capabilities to AWS-based architectures.
  • Design and maintain cloud-based data warehouse solutions using Amazon Redshift and related AWS services to support scalable, reliable, and high-performing data processing.
  • Develop governed data models, datasets, and data products that enable Tableau reporting, enterprise analytics, and self-service access to trusted business information.
  • Build and enhance scalable data extract, file delivery, and reporting solutions that reduce manual processes and improve the reliability and efficiency of enterprise data delivery.
  • Analyze and optimize ETL workflows, SQL queries, data models, and warehouse performance for large-scale datasets and complex reporting workloads.
  • Partner with business and technical stakeholders to gather requirements, understand reporting and data needs, and translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Implement and maintain appropriate data security, role-based access controls, and governance standards across enterprise data and analytics solutions.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data pipeline, data quality, performance, and reporting issues while supporting critical legacy systems throughout modernization efforts.
  • Apply modern software development practices, including source control, code review, testing, CI/CD, documentation, and automation, to data engineering and analytics development.
  • Evaluate and leverage cloud-native services, automation, and AI-assisted development tools to improve development efficiency, monitoring, data operations, and analytics capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Data, Engineering, Product, and business teams to establish sustainable data solutions, reduce reliance on manual reporting and external development resources, and support the continued evolution of the enterprise data platform.

Work & Education Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, Analytics, or a related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in ETL development, data engineering, business intelligence, data warehousing, or a related discipline required.
  • Hands-on experience designing, developing, optimizing, and supporting enterprise data warehouse and ETL solutions, including Amazon Redshift, required.
  • Advanced SQL development expertise, including complex query development, data transformation, and performance optimization required.
  • Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, enterprise reporting architectures, and large-scale data processing required.
  • Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into scalable data integration, reporting, and analytics solutions required.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including legacy data extraction and migration support, required.
  • Experience with SSRS reporting solutions and migrating legacy SQL Server/SSRS environments to modern cloud-based data platforms preferred.
  • Experience developing cloud-native data pipelines using AWS services such as Glue, S3, Lambda, Athena, ECS/EKS, or similar technologies preferred.
  • Experience developing Tableau dashboards, semantic data models, governed data products, and enterprise self-service analytics solutions preferred.
  • Experience implementing data governance, role-based security, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development practices preferred.
  • Experience within PBM, healthcare, pharmacy claims, 340B, rebate, or claims adjudication environments preferred.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools or developing AI-enabled automation, analytics, monitoring, or reporting solutions preferred.
