Reports to: Senior Director of Membership and Professional Development

Works Closely With: Marketing, Events and Finance teams

Classification: Full-time, Exempt

Hourly Rate Range: $60,000- $65,000/year

Designation: Remote working in the Eastern Time Zone. Position involves work-related travel in the United States two times per year including the Annual Conference in March of each year and an All Staff retreat in July of each year.ย

Job Description

The Membership Retention Lead plays a key role in supporting member retention, engagement, and overall member experience across the organization. This position combines relationship-building, operational coordination, and data-informed outreach to support renewal efforts for school and individual members. Working closely with teams across the organization, the Membership Retention Lead helps ensure members receiveย timelyย support, remain connected to AMS resources and programs, and experience consistent, responsive service throughout the membership lifecycle.ย 

In this role, you will play a vital role in:ย 

  • Strengthening member retention through proactive outreach, relationship management, and renewal engagementย ย 

  • Supporting a high-quality member experience across membership services, communications, and engagement touchpointsย ย 

  • Managing membership operations related to renewals, invoicing, event registration support, and member recordsย 

Key Responsibilities:ย 

Member Retention and Renewalย ย 

  • Partner with the Senior Director to execute and continuously refineย renewal outreach strategiesย for schoolย andย individualย members,ย including targeted engagement plansย forย at-risk membersย ย 

  • Lead proactive outreach to members including onboarding check-ins, mid-year touchpoints, and pre-renewal engagement to strengthen member satisfaction, connection, and long-term retentionย ย 

  • Monitor renewal activity and member engagement trends,ย identifyย retention risks and opportunities, and share insights and recommendations to support retention planning and decision-makingย 

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director and Marketing team on the development, implementation, and assessment of retention campaigns and member communication strategiesย ย 

  • Maintainย accurateย renewal records, overseeย timelyย processing of renewals, and helpย identifyย opportunities to improve renewal processes, workflows, and member experience operationsย 

Member Experience and Engagementย 

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for member questions, concerns, and support needsย 

  • Monitor shared inboxes and ensureย timely, clear, and helpful responsesย 

  • Identifyย gaps in member understanding or engagement and recommend improvementsย 

  • Support engagement initiatives including AMS Connect, Resource Library, and other member benefitsย 

  • Monitor member interactions and conversations to surface trends, needs, and opportunities for outreachย 

Membership Operations Supportย 

  • Process membership applications, renewals, and account updates with accuracy and timelinessย 

  • Manage invoicing, payments, and follow-up on outstanding balancesย iย 

  • Maintainย accurateย member records and documentation within the databaseย 

  • Assistย with data tracking and reporting related to retention and engagementย 

  • Support continuous improvement of workflows byย identifyingย inefficienciesย 

Events and Cross-Functional Supportย 

  • Support membership-related aspects of event registration, including member inquiries, registration support, and reportingย 

  • Collaborate with Events and Marketing teams to ensure alignment in member communications and experienceย 

  • Participate in the execution of the Annual Conference and other events with a focus on member experienceย 

Other Responsibilitiesย 

  • Support special projects as assignedย 

  • Contribute to a collaborative, responsive, and member-focused team environmentย 

Qualifications
  • Experience in membership services, customer success, account management, client services, nonprofit engagement, admissions/enrollment, hospitality, or another relationship-focused roleย ย 

  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships, support retention efforts, and provide high-quality service in a fast-paced environmentย ย 

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skillsย 

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously whileย maintainingย strong attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-throughย ย 

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently, take initiative, andย identifyย opportunities for improvementย ย 

  • Experience working with databases, CRM platforms, association management systems, or similar technology tools toย maintainย records, track activity, and support reportingย ย 

  • Proficiencyย in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort learning and navigatingย new technologyย platforms and systemsย ย 

  • Ability to analyze information,ย identifyย trends or gaps in member engagement, and recommend solutions that improve member experience and retentionย ย 

  • Experience supporting invoicing, payment follow-up, collections, or account reconciliation preferredย ย 

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with constituents, including a pleasant, friendly, and courteous telephone manner; strong customer service skills;ย demonstratedย ability toย maintainย records and information in an organized mannerย
