Job description

Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DHA Certain Personnel Workforce for DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This is a Landscape Architect, GS-0807-12 position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Northwestern Division (NWD), Omaha District, Engineering Division.

Duties
Help
  • As a Landscape Architect, you will:
  • Conduct field reconnaissance surveys of proposed sites to obtain information concerning site factors of topography, terrain, suitability of location with respect to other facilities.
  • Provide technical orientation, management and review of military master planning and environmental studies performed under service contracts by Architect-Engineer firms.
  • Furnish technical review and evaluation of site, layout, landscape, and lawn irrigation designs that are prepared and submitted by Architect-Engineer firms.
  • Act as landscape and land management specialist and advisor to military installations for the purpose of erosion control, re-vegetation reclamation programs, selection of plant materials, planting methods, and maintenance programs.

  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and expereince requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Landscape Architect:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in landscape architecture or landscape design.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: For each year short of graduation, the applicant must have had one year of experience under professional leadership and guidance of such character and diversity as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. This experience must have included original landscape design.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing professional work in planning and design of land and water areas involved in the construction, maintenance, restoration, preservation, and/or conservation of land and water areas for specific purposes; AND the utilization of technical skills involving CAD design, storm-water considerations, and grading.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
