Medical Science Liaison Compensation
- The pay range for this position is $55-$76 per hour based on experience
- Benefits are available to full-time employees after 90 days of employment and include health, optical, dental, life, and short-term disability insurance

Position Summary:
This position serves as a field-based scientific expert supporting Waters Advanced Diagnostics’ portfolio of automated organism identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and resistance-related diagnostic solutions. This role is responsible for leading scientific exchange with key external stakeholders, supporting Medical Affairs initiatives, and helping translate IDAST data into clinically meaningful insights for clinical microbiology laboratories, antimicrobial stewardship programs, infectious disease clinicians, pharmacists, and health-system decision-makers.
Medical Science Liaison Responsibilities
· Lead scientific and clinical support for Waters Advanced Diagnostics’ Automated Identification and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Solutions (IDAST) portfolio, including automated identification, susceptibility testing, and resistance-related solutions.
· Execute strategic scientific, educational, and external engagement activities aligned with Medical Affairs objectives and broader business priorities.
· Conduct high-quality scientific exchange with clinical microbiologists, laboratory directors, infectious disease clinicians, pharmacists, antimicrobial stewardship leaders, infection prevention stakeholders, and hospital decision-makers.
· Support KOL identification, engagement, and relationship development through advisory boards, scientific meetings, educational initiatives, investigator interactions, and other compliant Medical Affairs activities.
· Develop and deliver scientific education for external stakeholders and internal cross-functional teams on topics including:
o organism identification and susceptibility testing principles
o resistance interpretation and stewardship relevance
o clinical utility of IDAST
o workflow integration and laboratory implementation
o appropriate interpretation and communication of IDAST results
· Serve as a scientific partner to customers by translating IDAST performance characteristics and workflow advantages into clinical and operational relevance, including implications for antimicrobial optimization, resistance reporting, stewardship strategy, and hospital decision-making. Water’s ID/AST positioning emphasizes therapy optimization, antimicrobial stewardship, and informatics-enabled resistance tracking.
· Monitor and communicate scientific literature, competitive developments, evolving resistance trends, susceptibility-testing practices, and changes in the infectious disease and stewardship landscape relevant to IDAST.
· Collaborate cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Clinical Affairs, Commercial, Market Access, and other internal partners to support field medical strategy, scientific communication, and evidence generation.
· Capture field insights related to unmet needs, evidence gaps, implementation barriers, customer perceptions, and resistance/stewardship priorities to inform medical strategy and future evidence-generation planning.

Required Qualifications
- Degree in lab sciences with experience in clinical microbiology
- lab sciences, 1 year experience minimum
- Minimum 3 years of clinical, pharmaceutical, diagnostics, laboratory medicine, or related healthcare experience.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex scientific and clinical information effectively to diverse stakeholders.
- Experience educating healthcare professionals and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong knowledge of ID/AST, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, clinical laboratory workflows, and/or diagnostic technologies used in regulated healthcare settings.
- Ability to work independently in a field-based role.
- Remote, field-based role with anticipated travel of approximately 50%–60%, depending on geography, customer needs, and meeting/congress/conference activity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as an MSL, clinical scientist, laboratory scientist, pharmacist, direct patient care, or in a field-based medical/scientific role.
- Experience working with clinical microbiology laboratories, molecular diagnostics, hospital laboratories, pathology/lab medicine teams, or diagnostic implementation efforts.
- Familiarity with diagnostic technologies and workflows relevant to ID/AST, microbiology, molecular testing, automation/informatics, point-of-care testing, LC-MS-based clinical diagnostics, or newborn screening.
- Strong presentation skills and experience supporting scientific education for internal and external audiences.
- Experience translating technical or scientific data into relevant clinical, laboratory, or operational value for customers.
