Job description

AZRA is a specialty niche reinsurer, domiciled in California and licensed as an admitted insurer in 36 states (including District of Columbia), and is a qualified, accredited, or approved reinsurer in fifteen states. AZRA is a property casualty reinsurer which writes both prospective and legacy reinsurance. AZRA has specific expertise in run-off management of U.S. legacy insurance liabilities. It services Allianz Group affiliates and third parties including third party claims administration of asbestos, environmental, workers compensation, general liability, and construction defect liabilities.
AZRA has approximately 150 employees located nationwide with the majority working on a remote basis. AZRA is rated "AA-" by Standard & Poor's. As of December 31, 2025, AZRA had total admitted assets of USD $3.6 billion and policyholders' surplus of $265 million.
What you do:
The Finance Analyst Senior is responsible for carrying out tasks within a specific Finance functional area (e.g. accounting, reinsurance). You will handle routine to complex matters. Specific tasks can include preparing required financial reports, creating accounting journal entries and posting to ledger systems, bill and collect from external parties and intercompany affiliates, prepare general ledger reconciliations, and support the planning process. You will report to the Finance Director.
Reporting & Analysis
  • Interpret reinsurance contracts and apply reinsurance terms
  • Perform analysis of reinsurance activity to/for accounting and reporting including compliance with statutory regulations
  • Prepare general ledger reconciliations, accounting and financial reports for management, government, and regulatory agencies
  • Interpret accounting data, analyze reports, and recommend appropriate actions to be taken. Accounting and general ledger knowledge (debits, credits, etc.)
  • Record monthly and quarterly reinsurance activity
  • Support analysis and bookings related to commutations, novations, and schemes
  • Analyze and interpret new accounting principles as established by regulatory bodies (e.g., FASB, NAIC, AICPA, SEC, and Allianz)
  • Support reinsurance and financial audits
  • Support out sourced Financial activities
  • Assist in financial planning and documentation of procedures
  • Provide support and maintenance of Reinsurance financial systems

Transactions
  • Identify and cede reinsurance transactions via financial systems
  • Bill for routine to complex portfolios to Reinsurers / Brokers
  • Bill and collect from external parties and intercompany affiliates; proactively identify collection issues and recommend effective solutions
  • Complete the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial statements
  • Prepare, review, and analyze journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and variance explanations
  • Prepare and book technical worksheets for Prospective Reinsurance Insurance business
  • Complete accounting worksheets, journal entries, controls, and reports in accordance with GAAP, Statutory and IFRS Accounting Procedures for the insurance industry
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to gather financial data, validate transactions, and resolve discrepancies

Projects & Initiatives
  • Drive process improvements within immediate team and Finance department
  • Participate in company-wide projects and initiatives as needed
  • Utilization of artificial intelligence tools and resources (e.g. generative AI)

What you bring:
  • 4+ years of experience with casualty insurance and/or reinsurance, accounting, or finance
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products and ability to navigate multiple systems, including accounting/sub-ledger
  • Four-year degree required. Accounting, Finance, Business, or related / equivalent work experience
  • Insurance and US Statutory reporting experience. Knowledge of automated accounting systems (SAP preferred).
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and adaptable
  • Organizational and multi-tasking skills to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • You must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring immigration sponsorship now or in the future. This includes holders of H-1B, H4, L-1, L-2, TN, OPT, CPT, and other nonimmigrant visas.

Job posting range: $88,000 - $110,000
Note the job posting range is exclusive of company benefits or other compensation. This role is also eligible for an annual incentive program. If you are hired, your final base salary will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, experience, skills, competencies, and/or education. In addition to those factors, we will also consider internal equity of our current employees. Please keep in mind that the range provided is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at or near the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth.
