Remote Lab Coordinator information

What is a remote lab coordinator?

A Remote Lab Coordinator is a professional responsible for managing and supporting laboratory activities and operations from a remote location. Their duties typically include scheduling lab access, coordinating equipment usage, facilitating virtual experiments, and providing technical support to students or researchers. They ensure that all remote lab activities run smoothly and comply with safety and quality standards. This role often leverages technology to enable hands-on learning or research for individuals who cannot be physically present in the lab.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote lab coordinator?

To thrive as a Remote Lab Coordinator, you need strong organizational abilities, problem-solving skills, and experience in laboratory procedures, often backed by a degree in a science-related field. Familiarity with laboratory management systems, remote collaboration tools, and safety protocols is typically required. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are standout soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities ensure efficient coordination, compliance, and seamless operation of lab activities in a remote environment.

How does a remote lab coordinator effectively manage communication and troubleshoot issues with team members and students in a virtual environment?

As a Remote Lab Coordinator, effective communication is crucial for overseeing laboratory activities and resolving technical or procedural issues remotely. Coordinators typically use a combination of video conferencing, instant messaging, and project management platforms to stay connected with instructors, lab assistants, and students. Common challenges include troubleshooting equipment setup, clarifying experimental procedures, and ensuring timely responses to queries, all of which require proactive communication skills and a structured approach to workflow management. Successful coordinators often schedule regular check-ins, maintain clear documentation, and use shared digital resources to facilitate smooth collaboration and problem-solving.

Job description

Position Title: Implementation Specialist/Epic Beaker Application Coordinator
Location: Remote
Duration: ~18 months, with possible extension
Pay Range: $55-65/hr

Mission

Be the hands-on-keyboard developer of the Beaker CP configuration: independently source requirements from lab stakeholders, build enterprise-minded configuration and test records, and keep their piece of the build on track without being managed step by step.

Day-to-Day
  • Build out Beaker CP configuration and test records from requirements gathered directly from lab teams—roughly half the day heads-down building, not just waiting to be handed requirements.
  • Run and lead requirements-gathering/alignment meetings with lab stakeholders independently—roughly the other half of the day.
  • Coordinate with the rest of the AC team so builds are designed for the enterprise, not just a single market/state.
  • Present the build and its workflow impact to a range of audiences, including physicians and executive stakeholders.
  • Support go-live command center activities, including off-hours availability during go-live windows.
Must Have
  • Active Epic Beaker CP (Clinical Pathology) certification WITH hands-on CP implementation experience—certification alone, or Epic experience limited to other modules, will not meet the bar.
  • 2+ hospital system deployments strongly preferred; a single deployment considered only if at a large, highly complex system (comparable to Sentara or Centura).
  • Confident, self-assured communicator who can run meetings solo and hold their own in front of physicians and executives.
  • Collaborative and open-minded—willing to speak up and advocate for a different approach, but able to accept the team's decision and move forward once it's made.

The Company offers the following benefits for this position, subject to applicable eligibility requirements: medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, short-term disability insurance, paid parking/public transportation, paid time off, paid sick and safe time, hours of paid vacation time, weeks of paid parental leave, and paid holidays annually – as applicable.
