Position Overview

Avella Behavioral Health Center is seeking a Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our dedicated team in providing compassionate and effective mental health care. As a remote position, this role allows licensed counselors to manage their schedules while connecting with clients through teletherapy platforms. Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough preliminary interviews to understand each client's background and present concerns, documenting the information accurately to inform treatment plans.
  • Evaluate clients' mental, behavioral, and emotional health, identifying specific issues and articulating goals for their treatment.
  • Develop individualized intervention and recovery plans for a range of patients including individuals, couples, families, and groups, ensuring the plans are evidence-based and culturally sensitive.
  • Facilitate engaging individual and group therapy sessions, employing various therapeutic modalities to meet the diverse needs of clients.
  • Monitor and assess clients’ progress throughout their treatment journey, adjusting plans as necessary based on their evolving needs.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists, physicians, nurses, and social workers, to create comprehensive intervention plans that address all aspects of a client’s well-being.
  • Follow up with clients after their release from any inpatient care, providing continuity of services and support.
  • Identify and mitigate any behavioral issues that may impede recovery, proactively addressing potential barriers.
  • Provide guidance and resources to family members or caregivers to help them manage mental health challenges within the family system.
Patient Population / Client Focus

In this role, you will work with a varied client base, including individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction disorders, and other mental health conditions. Our clients often require a multi-faceted approach to treatment, so your expertise will be invaluable in helping them build coping strategies, improve their well-being, and foster supportive relationships.

Qualifications
  • Education: A Master’s degree or doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution is required.
  • Licensure: Candidates must hold current, valid licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of New Jersey.
  • Certification: A passing score on the National Counselor Examination (NCE) and/or the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE) is essential.
  • Skills: Proficiency with electronic health record systems such as AVATAR is necessary for efficient documentation and client management.
Preferred Experience
  • Ambition and experience in a clinical mental health setting, with a track record of delivering high-quality counseling services.
  • Familiarity with the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) best practices.
  • Knowledge of the effects of psychotropic medications as prescribed by medical professionals.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients, exhibiting excellent interpersonal skills.
