Job description

Location: Remote with required travel and branch presence as needed to meet expectations of the role.

Department: Commercial Lending

Reports To: VP of Commercial Services

Employment Type: Full-Time / Exempt

At TRUE Community Credit Union, we exist to inspire the pursuit of a life well lived. We are seeking a relationship-driven and analytically strong Junior Commercial Lending Officer to help grow our commercial presence across the state of Michigan.  This is more than a lending role - it is an opportunity to help businesses across Michigan grow while building your own commercial lending career at TRUE. The successful candidate will bring both business development drive and credit discipline, along with the desire to learn, partner, and contribute in ways that create lasting value for our members, communities, and team.

What You'll Do
  • Generate new business and commercial lending opportunities throughout the state of Michigan through relationship development, community presence, referrals, and proactive outreach.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with business members and prospects by understanding their goals and recommending lending solutions that support long-term success.
  • Originate business and commercial loan opportunities while supporting sound credit quality and alignment with TRUE's risk standards.
  • Partner with internal teams to support underwriting, credit analysis, portfolio management, and a smooth member experience from opportunity through closing.
  • Contribute to ongoing portfolio monitoring, financial review, and risk awareness while building the knowledge and experience needed to advance into a Commercial Lending Officer role.
  • Successfully transition into a Commercial Lending Officer position within approximately two years based on performance, demonstrated capability, and business impact.
What You Bring
  • Experience generating loans, including business loans or commercial loans, with a demonstrated ability to develop new business opportunities.
  • Background in one or more of the following: underwriting, portfolio management, business analysis, commercial credit analysis, or business portfolio management.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, including the ability to assess business performance, creditworthiness, and lending risk.
  • Ability to balance relationship development with sound credit judgment and operational follow-through.
  • Strong communication skills, business presence, and a commitment to delivering exceptional member experiences.
  • Experience in a credit union, bank, or commercial financial services environment is preferred.

Expected Starting Salary Range:

$65,150 - $80,480 (may increase based on relevant work experience).

This role offers a clear career path into commercial lending. Candidates who successfully complete the required training, demonstrate strong performance, and meet lending production expectations can progress to a fully functioning Commercial Loan Officer position within approximately two years, with compensation transitioning to a competitive base salary plus commission structure.

  • 401k AND employer-funded defined contribution pension plan

  • TRUE Cares Paid Family Leave which provides qualifying employees with up to 200 hours of paid time for birth, bonding, adoption, foster placement, and end-of-life care for qualifying family members
  • Annual bonus reward program
  • Company-paid short-term disability, long-term disability, and employee life insurance
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • Gym membership reimbursement
