Remote Junior Mern Stack Developer information

What are some common challenges faced by remote junior MERN Stack developers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote junior MERN Stack developers often face challenges such as limited real-time feedback, communication barriers with senior team members, and balancing independent problem-solving with knowing when to ask for help. To address these, it's helpful to establish regular check-ins with mentors, actively participate in team meetings, and make use of collaboration tools like Slack or GitHub. Building strong organizational habits and documenting your progress can also streamline remote workflows while ensuring you stay connected with the team and continue learning.

What are Remote Junior MERN Stack Developers?

Remote Junior MERN Stack Developers are entry-level programmers who work from a remote location and specialize in the MERN stack, which includes MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js. They assist in building web applications by writing code, fixing bugs, and collaborating with team members online. These developers typically have a basic understanding of full-stack web development but are still gaining experience. Being remote, they rely on communication tools and version control systems to coordinate with their teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Junior MERN Stack Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Junior MERN Stack Developer, you need a solid understanding of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and hands-on experience with MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, and Node.js, often supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp. Familiarity with version control using Git, RESTful APIs, and cloud deployment platforms like Heroku or AWS is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and self-motivation are vital soft skills, especially in a remote work environment. These skills ensure efficient development, seamless collaboration with distributed teams, and the ability to deliver robust web applications.

What is the difference between Remote Junior Mern Stack Developer vs Remote Front End Developer?

Job description

GRVTY (Northstrat) is seeking a Senior DevSecOps Engineer IV to support and upgrade the RMT global architecture and support the backbone of a mission-critical, cloud-native ecosystem - a hardware RF stack deployed with scalable software designed to provide USSF with tactical SEW options.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Orchestrate and execute over the air (OTA) software deployments to globally fielded systems in a potentially degraded, disconnected, intermittent, and limited (DDIL) connectivity environment. This engineer will be responsible for automating the deployment and security of software, reducing the need for expensive FSR travel while increasing the operational availability of the fleet. Once the software is live, the DevSecOps engineer will monitor its health remotely to preempt failures that could impact mission.
  • Architect Resilience: Maintain scalable Kubernetes infrastructure on AWS IL-6 with high availability and fault tolerance.
  • Orchestrate Delivery: Build and refine CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD for seamless code-to-cloud transitions including across security domains.
  • Secure the Stack: Integrate automated security scanning (Trivy, SonarQube) and enforce compliance with government security standards throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Optimize Performance: Identify bottlenecks and engineer solutions across cloud and container environments, from cluster tuning to artifact management.
  • Develop features to automate, scale, test, and secure a Kubernetes-based infrastructure.
  • Build and maintain hardened Docker container images, including STIG-compliant base images, optimized Dockerfiles, and integration with Harbor and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and architecture diagrams.
  • Compliance and Audits: Ensure that all DevSecOps practices comply with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
Collaboration: Work closely with development, operations, and security teams to foster a culture of shared responsibility for security.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 7+ years (senior level) in DevOps, Infrastructure, or DevSecOps in a cloud environment.
  • You must have an active or current TS/SCI US government clearance.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and/or Bash scripting for automation and operational support.
  • Deploying software packages to remote operational systems.
  • Strong Linux/Unix command line proficiency, preferably on RHEL-based systems.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, ArgoCD, and Helm.
  • Strong proficiency with Docker - writing Dockerfiles, building hardened images, and integrating builds into pipelines.
  • Hands-on Kubernetes experience - cluster operations, workload management, RBAC, networking, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and ability to operate effectively within a distributed team.
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time.
  • CompTIA Security+Certification

Desired:

  • Experience with AWS services and cloud-native infrastructure patterns.
  • Experience with RKE2 or other enterprise Kubernetes distributions in air-gapped or restricted environments.
  • Familiarity with Harbor, Nexus, Trivy, and SonarQube in a pipeline context.
  • Experience with Ansible for image and configuration management.
  • CKA/CKAD/CKS and/or AWS DevOps Professional certification

Benefits

Work/Life Balance

Northstrat values true work life balance. We offer power of choice benefits designed to best meet the needs of you and your lifestyle. Our benefits programs are designed to support and encourage wellness, healthy living, retirement investment, and lifetime learning.

Pay Range

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. We also offer competitive compensation, benefits, and profession development opportunities. Please refer to our Benefits section for additional details.

Flex Time

Northstrat does not mandate specific working hours. Although project requirements may dictate schedules, a Northstrat employee is only required to work an average of 8 hours per weekday over the course of a month. For example: John worked 12 hours on June 1st to meet a project deadline. On June 15th, John only worked 4 hours because he left early for a long weekend. John's IBA was not debited for time off because flex time allowed him to carry over those 4 hours from June 1st.

Individual Benefits Account (IBA)

To attract and retain the highest quality staff, Northstrat provides a unique and versatile benefits package, the Individual Benefit Account (IBA), which places the power of choice in the hands of our greatest asset - the employee.

The purpose of the IBA is to provide attractive benefits to all full-time employees of Northstrat on a flexible basis that enables each covered employee to select a package that best suits his or her needs. Whether those needs are paid time off, medical expenses, prescription drug expenses, cash disbursement, or a combination of any of these, the IBA provides flexibility to help you meet your specific goals. The IBA can be used for such things as:

  • Medical and Vision Insurance through United Health Care; Dental insurance through Delta Dental
  • 100% Medical Reimbursement
  • Time Off with Pay
  • Profit Sharing Plan
  • 401k
  • Educational Benefits
  • Additional Income

IBA Benefits accrue each month in the amount equivalent to 50% of the employee's monthly compensation rate. That is, the effective dollar amount of this accrual is in addition to an employee's salary.

Profit Sharing Plan (PSP)

The PSP is a qualified retirement plan that Northstrat funds quarterly on the employee's behalf through the IBA in the amount equivalent to 25% (up to the IRS contribution limit) of the employee's compensation. That is, of the 50% accrual in the IBA, half of the amount accrued is applied to the PSP

Lifelong Learning

Our culture promotes and nurtures a growth environment. We hire and scale rapidly to meet the needs of our partner customers. Through the use of company provided online learning opportunities, periodic company sponsored training events, and the ability to use IBA funds for reimbursement of work-related education expenses you will have the opportunity to continually grow your skills and abilities.
