Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Game Designer based in Netherlands.

As a Game Designer, you will play a key role in shaping the systems, economy, and long-term player experience of an innovative multiplayer mobile game. Working within a highly collaborative and fully remote environment, you will design engaging progression loops, balance monetization and retention systems, and help define the strategic direction of live operations. This position offers the opportunity to influence both core gameplay and meta systems while contributing to the growth of a new title from development through launch and beyond. You will collaborate closely with product, design, and development teams, using player insights and data-driven decision-making to create compelling experiences that keep players engaged for years. This is an ideal opportunity for someone passionate about game systems, live service games, and innovative approaches to player engagement.

Accountabilities
  • Design and optimize game systems that drive player progression, engagement, retention, monetization, and overall gameplay satisfaction.
  • Shape player journeys and progression paths to support long-term retention and encourage mastery throughout the player lifecycle.
  • Playtest and evaluate features, content, and balancing adjustments to ensure quality and alignment with design goals before release.
  • Own the design, balancing, and ongoing management of the in-game economy, monetization systems, and live operations initiatives.
  • Develop pricing strategies, virtual goods offerings, and in-game purchase structures that enhance both player value and business performance.
  • Plan and manage seasonal content strategies, balancing game systems and economy adjustments to support ongoing engagement.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to define roadmaps, identify new content opportunities, and evolve gameplay systems based on player needs.
  • Analyze game performance metrics, player behavior, and live operations data to generate insights and recommend improvements.
  • Design and evaluate experiments, monitor key performance indicators, and leverage data-driven approaches to optimize player outcomes and business goals.
  • Contribute innovative ideas around game systems, competition models, community engagement, and emerging technologies.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in a senior or experienced mid-level game design role, ideally within mobile free-to-play and midcore game environments.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and shipping game systems focused on progression, economy balancing, monetization, retention, and live operations.
  • Hands-on experience working on at least one live-operated free-to-play mobile game.
  • Strong understanding of player motivation, engagement loops, competitive systems, and monetization mechanics.
  • Ability to balance player experience with commercial objectives through thoughtful game economy design.
  • Proficiency in analyzing gameplay data, developing hypotheses, conducting experiments, and measuring outcomes.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in product, design, development, and community functions.
  • Familiarity with game development tools and playtesting workflows, including experience working within development environments.
  • Strong communication, documentation, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
  • Passion for mobile gaming across multiple genres and a curiosity for emerging trends, technologies, and innovative game design approaches.
  • Comfortable working autonomously in a fully remote environment while maintaining strong cross-functional collaboration.
  • Availability to work within European time zones and core collaboration hours.
Benefits
  • Fully remote work environment with flexibility and autonomy.
  • Opportunity to contribute to a new game with long-term growth potential and significant creative impact.
  • Close mentorship and personalized support for professional development.
  • Exposure to innovative business models, live service strategies, and emerging gaming technologies.
  • Collaborative and highly engaged cross-functional team culture.
  • Direct influence on product direction, player experience, and game performance.
  • Continuous learning opportunities across game design, product management, and live operations.
  • International and diverse remote working environment.
  • Supportive team culture focused on ownership, experimentation, and growth.
  • Opportunity to work on a title designed for long-term player engagement and competitive experiences.
