Remote Julia Programming information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Julia Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Julia Programmer, you need strong programming skills in Julia, a solid background in mathematics or data science, and experience with distributed computing or scientific computing projects. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms, and Julia-specific libraries such as Flux.jl or DataFrames.jl is typically required. Outstanding problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective written communication are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration and project delivery. These skills and qualities are essential for delivering efficient, high-quality code and collaborating seamlessly in distributed, often cross-functional teams.

What are some common challenges faced by remote Julia programmers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Julia programmers often encounter challenges such as collaborating across time zones, ensuring efficient code review, and maintaining clear communication with their teams. Additionally, because Julia is a relatively newer language, developers may need to troubleshoot integration issues with other technologies or find solutions to less-documented problems. These challenges can be addressed by leveraging asynchronous communication tools, participating in regular virtual meetings, utilizing robust version control systems, and engaging with the active Julia community for support and resources.

What is remote Julia programming?

Remote Julia programming refers to working as a programmer who uses the Julia language while operating from a location outside of a traditional office setting, often from home or anywhere with internet access. Julia is a high-level, high-performance programming language commonly used for technical computing, data science, and numerical analysis. Remote Julia programmers collaborate with teams, develop software, analyze data, and solve computational problems, leveraging digital communication tools. This setup offers flexibility and access to global opportunities, making it popular among developers and organizations worldwide.

Job description

About Vantage
Vantage is the FinOps platform built for modern engineering teams, trusted by thousands of organizations including Block, FanDuel, Vercel, Temporal, and CircleCI, to manage and optimize infrastructure costs across hyperscalers, cloud providers, and foundational models. We're passionate about building a cloud cost transparency platform that helps enable everyone, from developers to enterprises, analyze, report, collaborate on, and optimize their cloud spend. Together we are a high-output team of ~55 employees based in New York City with a remote-friendly culture.
Backed by $25M from Andreessen Horowitz and Scale Venture Partners, and prominent industry veterans: Matthew Prince (Co-Founder, Cloudflare), Calvin French Owen (Co-Founder, Segment), Ben and Moisey Uretsky (Co-Founders, DigitalOcean), Stephanie and Nat Friedman (CEO, Github), Julia Lipton, Brianne Kimmel and others.
About the Role
As a Solutions Engineer, you will work hands-on with Vantage's most strategic and technically complex customers to ensure successful adoption and long-term value. This is a highly technical, customer-facing role focused on implementation, architecture, and problem-solving, rather than pure support or customer success.
You'll embed directly with customers during onboarding and expansion moments, helping design cloud cost allocation models, integrate complex data providers, and unblock technical challenges. You'll have a direct line to Product and Engineering, and your customer observations will shape what we build.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working close to customers, understands cloud infrastructure deeply, and wants to influence both customer outcomes and product direction.
What You Will Do:
  • Partner with customers to understand their cloud environments and cost-management goals, acting as a trusted technical advisor to customers' engineering, FinOps, and finance stakeholders
  • Design and implement scalable cost allocation and tagging strategies across complex environments, including multi-cloud and Kubernetes
  • Support technical onboarding for complex accounts, partnering closely with Customer Success on advanced use cases
  • Debug and resolve data ingestion, tagging, and reporting issues in collaboration with Support and Engineering
  • Build custom solutions, queries, and workflows using Vantage's APIs, exports, and integrations to unblock customer needs
  • Surface recurring customer pain points and edge cases to Product and Engineering, contributing to internal tooling, documentation, and repeatable implementation patterns

What We're Looking For:
  • 5+ years in a technical, customer-facing role (Solutions Architect, Forward Deployed Engineer, Technical Consultant, Sales Engineer, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern data stacks
  • Experience working with cost data, billing exports, usage metrics, or large datasets
  • Comfortable writing SQL and/or Python for analysis, troubleshooting, or automation
  • Excellent communicator who can explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • High ownership mindset and comfort operating in ambiguity
  • A kind person

Bonus Points:
  • Experience building and deploying to cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.), and/or experience provisioning and updating services via Terraform
  • Experience with FinOps, cloud billing, or cost allocation models
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Snowflake, Datadog, or similar tools Vantage integrates with

Pay & Benefits
The estimated annual US compensation range for this role is $145,000 - $180,000 plus a competitive equity package. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and location. Additional benefits for this role may include: 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and education stipends.
At this time, Vantage is only set up to employ in the United States
