Professionals in this field design equipment that holds, supports, or aligns parts to ensure quality and efficiency in production. Remote jig fixture designers often work for engineering firms, manufacturers, or as freelancers, collaborating virtually with teams to meet specific project requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote jig fixture designer?

To thrive as a Remote Jig Fixture Designer, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering, manufacturing processes, and CAD design, often supported by a relevant engineering degree or technical certification. Lighting & Fan Designer, Own Brand Lighting Team at FergusonAbout the Team

Own Brand Lighting designs and manufactures decorative lighting and ceiling fans across a portfolio of brands, serving showroom, designer, builder, light commercial, e commerce channels. Product development sits at the center of the business - working from market insight through to finished product, and partnering directly with our engineering, sourcing, and factory teams around the world. It is a collaborative group where designers own their work end to end and see it reach the market quickly.

Position Summary

We are looking for a designer with a genuine point of view who can create cohesive collections across both mid-range and premium price points.

Someone who can see an opportunity in the market and answer it with a complete, considered collection.

In this role you will create across our full portfolio of decorative and architectural lighting, outdoor lighting, and ceiling fans, carrying products from original concept through approved production sample. You will translate trends, customer insight, historical reference, and market opportunity into products that are both beautiful and commercially successful - and you will be equally at home presenting design direction to leadership and reviewing a sample on the factory floor.

Taste matters here, and so does range. The ability to shift design language and cost structure between our collections while protecting design integrity is central to the work. You will partner closely with the Director of Product Development to build cohesive assortments that advance our brand vision, with real ownership of what you create and room to grow it.

Location: This is approved to be Remote in the US or will be hybrid if you are located in one of our preferred locations: Southern California, Atlanta, Dallas, Cincinnati or Newport News.

Regular travel expected to various domestic offices (GA, CA, TX, OH, VA) and international manufacturing partners.

Specific Responsibilities

Collection Creation & Design Direction

  • Conceive and develop original lighting and fan collections that respond to identified market opportunities and lead, rather than follow, category trends.
  • Bring a clear design point of view to every program - grounded in research, historical reference, and a considered read on where interiors are heading.
  • Balance design vision with commercial viability, manufacturing feasibility, and cost targets, so collections are as buildable as they are beautiful.
  • Identify assortment gaps, pricing opportunities, and finish expansions in partnership with the Product Development team.
  • Explore new materials, finishes, manufacturing techniques, and construction methods that elevate the assortment while meeting quality and pricing goals.
Design Execution & Technical Development
  • Produce presentation-quality renderings, CAD models, technical drawings, and specification packages using SolidWorks, Rhino and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Translate concepts into full-scale, accurate CAD that requires minimal interpretation at the factory, resolving construction, assembly, finish, and pricing questions within the model.
  • Apply a keen sense of scale across a range that runs from small fixtures to very large statement pieces.
  • Read, review, and improve engineering drawings - recommending revisions that achieve high-quality construction and target price points while preserving design integrity.
  • Draw on working knowledge of fixture and mechanical construction, with particular depth in metal and glass manufacturing.
Vendor & Sample Partnership
  • Own communication with domestic and international vendors to convey design intent, resolve technical challenges, and hold development timelines.
  • Manage sample development end to end, evaluating prototypes and providing detailed engineering and quality comments through each round.
  • Participate in virtual and in-person vendor meetings covering concepts, materials, prototypes, engineering solutions, and production readiness.
  • Partner with engineering and sourcing to ensure products meet performance, quality, sustainability, and cost objectives.
Communication & Project Leadership
  • Create compelling presentations that carry design inspiration, historical reference, competitive context, and technical development through to final direction.
  • Maintain development trackers, timelines, and sample organization so programs land on schedule.
  • Manage several projects at once with accountability and consistently high-quality output.
  • Contribute to the creative culture of the team by sharing research, references, and emerging trends.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to visit vendors, factories, trade shows, and design markets.
Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of product design experience, preferably in lighting or ceiling fans.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates an original point of view and real taste - ideally including complete collections taken from concept to market.
  • Proven track record of bringing products from concept through production on seasonal development calendars.
  • Strong understanding of lighting construction, materials, finishes, manufacturing methods, electrical components, and production processes.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks or comparable parametric CAD software such as Rhino.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop and InDesign, along with comparable rendering tools.
  • Fluency in manufacturing documentation, technical drawings, specification development, and production communication.
  • Direct experience collaborating with manufacturing partners.
  • Ability to translate trends, historical reference, and market insight into commercially successful product.
  • Excellent presentation, storytelling, and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities, with the range to prioritize several development calendars without losing attention to detail.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented approach to problem solving.
  • High standards for design excellence, craftsmanship, quality, and innovation.
  • Must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
  • A growth mindset, resilience, and genuine enthusiasm for the work and for travel.
