Your responsibilities are to review application design, build codes, troubleshoot software issues, ensure system compatibility, and document technical specifications. Engineers, designers, and support teams work together to create a functioning website that meets client expectations. What does a remote JavaScript developer do?

A Remote JavaScript Developer is responsible for building and maintaining web applications and user interfaces using JavaScript, while working from a location outside of a traditional office setting. They often collaborate with other developers, designers, and project managers through online tools. Remote JavaScript Developers may work as freelancers, contractors, or full-time employees for companies around the world.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote JavaScript developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote JavaScript Developer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, experience with modern frameworks (such as React or Node.js), and a solid understanding of web development fundamentals, often supported by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Senior Technical Writer

Starburst

Boston, MA • Remote

Full-time

Re-posted 8 days ago

Job description

About the role

We're looking for a Senior Technical Writer who brings craft and strategic instinct to the discipline. We want someone who can own complex documentation initiatives end to end, influence how content is structured and delivered at scale, operate with authority in a fast-moving, highly technical environment, and help their team succeed with AI-assisted tooling.

As a Senior Technical Writer at Starburst, you will:

  • Own the planning, writing, and continuous improvement of highly technical documentation, including configuration, deployment, integration, and query reference content.
  • Partner directly with software engineers, product managers, and subject matter experts to extract accurate technical detail and drive timely review cycles, including setting deadlines and driving stakeholder alignment.
  • Lead documentation work tied to major platform and product initiatives.
  • Evaluate and develop content for AI consumability and discoverability, including how documentation performs in LLM-mediated search and developer evaluation contexts.
  • Apply a structured content approach to ensure documentation serves the right audience at the right stage of their journey, from evaluation through advanced use.
  • Contribute to documentation standards, style guidelines, and peer review processes across the team.
  • Serve as a senior voice in cross-functional planning, advocating for documentation requirements in the product development lifecycle.
  • Partner on piloting AI-assisted drafting tools: evaluate output quality, help define what a human must verify before publication, and help build workflows where AI assistance meaningfully improves content and reduces toil.
  • Contribute content expertise to docs replatforming initiatives by representing structured-content and authoring requirements in tooling evaluations.

Some of the things we look for:

  • 7+ years of technical writing experience, with a strong portfolio of developer-facing or data infrastructure documentation. Writing samples required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and make sound content decisions without close supervision.
  • Experience owning documentation for complex SaaS, cloud, or data platform products.
  • Proven ability to manage SME relationships decisively, including driving review cycles and escalating blockers.
  • Proficiency with docs-as-code workflows: Git/GitHub, Markdown, and static site generators.
  • Experience with or strong interest in content architecture, structured authoring, and emerging documentation platform tooling.
  • Excellent written communication in US English.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong plus: familiarity with how documentation is consumed by AI systems (llms.txt, RAG-friendly chunking, MCP, AI-search visibility), or hands-on experience using LLMs in a content workflow (drafting, evaluating output quality).
  • Nice to have: basic scripting/automation exposure (Python, JavaScript, or similar).

Where could this role be based?

  • Remote, with a preference for the US East Coast time zone
