What is a remote JavaScript developer?

A Remote JavaScript Developer is a software engineer who specializes in using JavaScript and its frameworks to build web applications, while working from a location outside of a traditional office setting. These professionals often collaborate with teams using online tools to design, develop, and maintain websites or applications. Remote JavaScript Developers are responsible for writing efficient code, debugging, and ensuring seamless user experiences. Their work can include both frontend and backend development, depending on the specific role and company needs.

What does a remote JavaScript developer do?

As a remote JavaScript developer, you work from home and code software or applications to meet the needs of your company. In this role, you may test software on the web, iterate software to incorporate feedback, and otherwise help meet the development requirements of your company. Like many programmers, most remote JavaScript programmers do not focus exclusively on this programming language—while it may receive the majority of your time, you may also be asked to program in other languages as needed. Remote JavaScript developers often use email, telephones, and virtual office software to communicate with other developers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote JavaScript developer?

A Remote Javascript Developer needs strong proficiency in core JavaScript, familiarity with frameworks like React or Node.js, and a solid understanding of web development principles, usually backed by a degree in computer science or equivalent experience. Experience with code versioning tools (such as Git), package managers (like npm or Yarn), and cloud collaboration platforms is typically essential. Excellent problem-solving, self-motivation, and clear written communication skills help developers excel in distributed teams. These competencies enable the developer to deliver high-quality code efficiently while collaborating effectively in remote environments.

How do remote JavaScript developers typically collaborate with team members and manage code integration?

Remote JavaScript developers commonly use tools like Git, Slack, and project management platforms (such as Jira or Trello) to collaborate with team members. Regular video meetings and code reviews help ensure alignment on project goals and maintain code quality. Developers frequently participate in agile sprints, contributing to both front-end and back-end tasks, and often pair with colleagues in different time zones to solve problems. Clear documentation and consistent communication are key to managing code integration and fostering an effective remote workflow.

What is the difference between Remote Javascript Developer vs Remote Frontend Developer?

Job description

Location:Fully Remote, United States
Position Type: Full-Time

Clearance: U.S. citizenship is required. The candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain federal suitability, a government-issued PIV credential, and required system access.

The Opportunity

TeamWorx Security is seeking a Senior Software Developer to design and build applications, automation, and AI-enabled tools for a federal government client. This work replaces manual processes and disconnected spreadsheets with practical software that people use every day to plan work, manage requirements, and make decisions.

This work supports an enterprise organization that serves many business lines. You might spend a month building an application for one team, then move to help a different group solve an entirely unrelated challenge. Some work involves new development, some involves modernizing existing tools, and some involves helping a team figure out what they actually need. Flexibility matters more than depth in any single technology.

Success in this role requires initiative, ownership, and clear communication. You will work directly with government stakeholders to understand what they actually need, propose realistic solutions, and deliver working capability in short iterations. This person must be able to explain technical trade-offs to nontechnical users, handle shifting priorities, and stay accountable for software after it reaches production.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain applications, automation, and integrations using technologies such as Python, JavaScript, Google Apps Script, APIs, cloud services, and modern web frameworks.
  • Move quickly between projects, teams, and business areas, gathering context fast and delivering useful capability within short engagements.
  • Work with government stakeholders to define requirements, propose realistic options, iterate on designs, and confirm solutions meet operational needs.
  • Build data-driven tools, dashboards, and interfaces that make complex information usable, and integrate AI and automation capabilities where they deliver value.
  • Deliver working software in short Agile sprints, including testing, user acceptance, production support, and modernization of existing tools.
  • Ensure applications meet accessibility, security, and federal compliance requirements, and document your work so others can support and extend it.

What We Think You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 12 or more years of software development experience.
  • Master's degree with 10 years of experience also considered.
  • Demonstrated full-stack ability across front-end interfaces, back-end services, APIs, databases, and deployment.
  • Proficiency with Python, JavaScript, and SQL, and experience building applications that integrate with cloud services, enterprise data platforms, and third-party systems.
  • Familiarity with version control, CI/CD, testing practices, and production troubleshooting.
  • Strong problem-solving and customer communication skills, with a track record of learning new tools and technologies as project needs change.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Google Workspace and Google Apps Script development.
  • Experience with enterprise data platforms such as Databricks or BigQuery, or supporting operational deployment of new platform capabilities.
  • Experience integrating AI capabilities, robotic process automation, or workflow automation into production applications.
  • Prior federal contracting experience, or familiarity with Section 508, FISMA, or FedRAMP requirements.
