Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a SWE Infrastructure Specialist (Java) - Freelance AI Trainer Project based in Netherlands.

This role offers experienced Java engineers the opportunity to apply their infrastructure expertise to the advancement of next-generation AI systems.
You will contribute to improving how AI models understand enterprise software architectures, distributed systems, and cloud-based environments.
The position combines software engineering, systems analysis, and AI evaluation in a highly technical and research-driven setting.
You will challenge advanced language models with real-world infrastructure scenarios and assess their ability to reason about complex engineering problems.
Your expertise will help improve AI capabilities around scalability, reliability, performance optimization, and production-grade software design.
This is a remote contract opportunity for engineers passionate about shaping the future of AI through technical knowledge and practical experience.

Accountabilities:

The role focuses on evaluating and improving AI model performance in the context of Java-based software systems, infrastructure design, and enterprise engineering challenges. You will provide expert feedback, analyze technical reasoning, and help develop stronger AI understanding of complex software environments.

  • Engage with advanced AI models on Java-focused infrastructure and platform engineering scenarios.
  • Evaluate model-generated solutions for architectural correctness, scalability, reliability, and operational effectiveness.
  • Analyze Java application design decisions related to concurrency, latency, throughput, and resource management.
  • Review infrastructure approaches involving distributed systems, cloud-native deployments, and enterprise architectures.
  • Assess testing strategies, deployment workflows, and reliability practices for Java-based systems.
  • Identify and document model weaknesses, incorrect assumptions, and reproducible failure cases.
  • Provide structured feedback to improve AI evaluation frameworks and reasoning capabilities.
  • Analyze performance bottlenecks, operational risks, and system-level tradeoffs.
  • Help define quality standards and benchmarks for AI-generated technical solutions.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly through detailed documentation and engineering explanations.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate has strong Java development experience combined with infrastructure, systems engineering, or cloud expertise. You should be comfortable analyzing complex technical problems and clearly explaining architectural decisions and tradeoffs.

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Strong professional experience with Java development and enterprise-grade software systems.
  • Hands-on experience with software architecture, distributed systems, or backend engineering.
  • Understanding of JVM concepts, application performance, concurrency, and resource optimization.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering practices.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native deployments, containerization, and modern software delivery workflows.
  • Ability to evaluate system reliability, scalability, and operational risks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to technical detail.
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to explain complex engineering concepts clearly.
  • Experience working with AI-assisted development or evaluating AI-generated technical outputs is a plus.
Benefits:
  • Competitive contractor compensation ranging from $80 to $150 per hour, depending on experience, expertise, and geographic location.
  • Fully remote work opportunity with flexible location options.
  • Opportunity to contribute to the development and improvement of advanced AI systems.
  • Work on challenging technical scenarios involving enterprise software, cloud infrastructure, and distributed systems.
  • Gain exposure to cutting-edge AI evaluation methodologies and model improvement processes.
  • Flexible contract-based engagement designed for experienced engineering professionals.
  • Contractors provide their own secure computer and high-speed internet connection.
  • Company-sponsored benefits such as health insurance and paid time off are not included for this contract role.
