Job description

Overview
DecisionPoint Corporation is seeking a Mid-Level Software Developer - Java Backend to support our U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) Integrated Booking System (IBS) program. This role is primarily focused on the development, enhancement, and sustainment of Java-based backend applications and services that support mission-critical transportation and logistics operations.
The Software Developer will design and develop backend services, APIs, integrations, and application components using Java and modern Java frameworks such as Spring Boot. The developer will work across the software development lifecycle, supporting new capabilities, system enhancements, defect resolution, integration, testing, and deployment.
While exposure to front-end technologies such as Angular is beneficial, this position is best suited for a developer whose primary strength is Java backend development.
The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on Java development experience, experience building and supporting RESTful services and enterprise applications, and the ability to troubleshoot complex application and integration issues in a collaborative Agile/DevSecOps environment.
This position is fully remote.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, enhance, and maintain Java-based backend applications and services supporting the IBS program
  • Develop backend solutions using Java, Spring Boot, and related Java frameworks and libraries
  • Design, build, maintain, and consume RESTful APIs and web services
  • Develop application business logic, service-layer components, integrations, and data-access functionality
  • Integrate backend services with relational databases, external systems, and other application components
  • Translate functional and technical requirements into reliable, scalable, and maintainable software solutions
  • Write clean, efficient, testable, and maintainable Java code following established coding standards and software engineering best practices
  • Develop and maintain unit and integration tests to support application quality and reliability
  • Participate in peer code reviews and incorporate feedback to continuously improve code quality
  • Troubleshoot and resolve backend application defects, integration issues, and performance problems
  • Analyze application logs and system behavior to identify root causes and implement effective solutions
  • Support application integrations across system components and external interfaces
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automated build, test, and deployment processes
  • Ensure applications comply with DoD security requirements, secure coding practices, and applicable STIG requirements
  • Participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, demonstrations, and retrospectives
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for application components, APIs, integrations, and system changes
  • Collaborate with senior developers, technical leads, QA, DevSecOps, database, infrastructure, and other engineering teams to support successful releases and deployments
  • Support front-end integration efforts and, as needed, contribute to Angular-based application components

Qualifications
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • IAT Level II certification (CompTIA Security+ CE preferred)
  • Minimum 3+ years of professional software development experience
  • Strong hands-on experience developing applications using Java
  • Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, or comparable Java application frameworks
  • Experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs and web services
  • Experience developing backend business logic, service-layer components, and application integrations
  • Experience working with relational databases and SQL
  • Experience with object-oriented design, software design principles, and common development patterns
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests for Java applications
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging enterprise applications, APIs, and integrations
  • Experience using Git or similar source-control tools
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a distributed development team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting USTRANSCOM, DoD, or other federal mission systems
  • Experience with Spring Boot-based enterprise applications or microservices
  • Experience developing applications using microservices architectures
  • Experience with cloud-based environments, particularly AWS
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with messaging, asynchronous processing, or enterprise application integration technologies
  • Familiarity with application security, secure coding practices, vulnerability remediation, and security scanning tools
  • Experience with tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, Jira, and Confluence
  • Experience working in a DoD DevSecOps environment
  • Familiarity with Angular, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS and the integration of front-end applications with Java REST APIs
