Job description

TELUS Health is empowering every person to live their healthiest life. Guided by our vision, we are leveraging the power of our leading edge technology and focusing on the uniqueness of each individual to create the future of health. As a global-leading health and well-being provider - encompassing physical, mental and financial health - TELUS Health is improving health outcomes for consumers, patients, healthcare professionals, employers and employees.

Join our team and what we'll accomplish together
Our Benefits Administration team is the backbone of how millions of Canadians access and manage their employee benefits. We maintain and evolve the platforms that serve some of Canada's large enterprises. Every day, our team configures customized benefits packages, processes client requests, and ensures seamless benefit experiences for millions of employees across the country.
We manage two platforms: Powerflex, our legacy system that powers critical client configurations, and ABL (Area Benefits LifeWorks), our modern, next-generation platform architecting the future of benefits administration. You'll work across both, maintaining stability in our proven systems while architecting the innovations that define tomorrow's platform.
What makes this team special: We value developers who own their work end-to-end. You won't just write code-you'll analyze tickets, understand business context, collaborate directly with stakeholders, implement solutions, and deploy them to production.
Your code powers how Canadian employees access their healthcare, dental, pension, and welfare benefits. You'll directly shape the systems millions of people rely on.

What you'll do

  • Own tickets end-to-end: Analyze issues, review relevant code, collaborate with business stakeholders for clarity, implement fixes, and deploy to production independently.

  • Develop and optimize backend business logic using C# and .NET 4.8, with a focus on secure, maintainable code.

  • Write, debug, and fine-tune complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and database schemas in SQL Server to support critical application features.

  • Build and maintain APIs and backend service layers that reliably support the frontend team and downstream services.

  • Participate actively in agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, retrospectives), work collaboratively with Business Analysts on user stories, and contribute to technical planning sessions.

  • Engage in code reviews and technical discussions, sharing knowledge with teammates and learning from peers.

  • Deploy features through our CI/CD pipeline, ensuring quality and reliability at every stage.

What you bring
  • 5+ years of hands-on backend development experience at an intermediate level or strong track record of proven technical growth. We value demonstrated ability to code and communicate over raw years of experience.

  • Strong expertise in C# and deep familiarity with the .NET 4.8 ecosystem. You write production-quality code regularly and understand the framework deeply.

  • Advanced relational database skills with hands-on experience writing and optimizing T-SQL queries. SQL Server is preferred; Oracle experience is equally valued and transferable.

  • Experience building and maintaining APIs and backend service layers in a production environment.

  • Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming principles, design patterns, and best practices for maintainable code.

  • Strong communication skills: You can explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders, work collaboratively with Business Analysts, and articulate your approach to problem-solving clearly. We value a developer with great communication over one who is technically brilliant but isolated.

  • Resourcefulness and initiative: You take ownership of tickets, analyze root causes independently, ask probing questions, and push solutions forward without constant oversight. You're comfortable learning independently and asking for help when needed.

Nice to Have
  • Experience working in Agile environments with user stories, sprint ceremonies, and continuous integration/deployment practices.

  • Familiarity with benefits administration, insurance, or similar domain environments (though not required-we'll teach you the domain).

  • Contributions to open-source projects or personal technical projects demonstrating continuous learning.

Salary Range: $60000 - $85000

  • Actual total compensation will be determined based on factors such as knowledge, skills, performance and experience. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply, even if the posted salary range doesn't match your expectations. We're open to discussing competitive compensation packages tailored to your experience level and expertise.

  • TELUS Health offers rewarding benefits, which may vary per job function, such as:

  • Comprehensive total rewards package highlighting competitive salary and bonus structures, minimum 3 weeks of vacation, and flexible benefits plan to meet the needs of you and your family

  • Flexibility to work in-office, virtually or a combination of both

  • Generous company matched pension

  • Opportunity to give back to communities in which we work, live and serve

  • Career growth and learning & development opportunities to develop your skills

  • And much more...

Job Type: This is for a current vacancy.
