Job description

Sr QA Automation Enablement Engineer

Apply now Job no: 505128
Work type: Full Time Regular
Location: Remote
Categories: Information Technology

Mutual of Omaha is a Fortune 500 company with a long history of being there for our customers in moments that matter. Our Workplace Solutions division delivers group insurance products and technology to some of America's largest employers, and we're building the quality program that will ensure those systems perform at the highest level. If you're a Sr QA automation engineer who wants to teach others a structured QA process and you want real ownership, cross-team impact, and the chance to help build something from the ground up - this is your opportunity.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:

  • Estimated Salary: $110,500 - $145,000, plus annual bonus opportunity.
  • 401(k) plan with a 2% company contribution and 6% company match.
  • Work-life balance with vacation, personal time and paid holidays. See our benefits and perks page for details.
Applicants for this position must not now, nor at any point in the future, require sponsorship for employment.

This role is classified as remote; however, periodic in-person attendance will be required at times for activities such as quarterly or project planning, training, or other business-critical meetings

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Serve as the dedicated QA Automation Engineer for an assigned ART(s) within Workplace Solutions, partnering directly with BAs and engineers across multiple teams.
  • Assess the automation readiness of each team within your ART and help prioritize which applications and workflows to automate first.
  • Help teams set up and organize their QA tooling (test-case management folder structure, test repositories, test management processes).
  • Work side by side with BAs and engineers to write, review, and improve automation scripts - teaching best practices and upskilling team members as you go.
  • Assist teams in developing test plans and test scenarios, with a focus on identifying which workflows are worth automating and which are not.
  • Provide hands-on automation scripting support using tools including Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, and/or Postman.
Integrate automation suites into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar) to support reliable, repeatable execution.
Review test scripts developed by team members and provide constructive feedback to improve quality and maintainability.
Support upskilling of BAs and engineers on testing fundamentals, automation tools, and best practices - including recommending and facilitating relevant training resources.
  • Collaborate with the broader QA program team (QA Lead, Program Manager, Change Manager, Architect) to stay aligned on standards and direction.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • 7+ years of experience in QA automation engineering.
  • Hands-on proficiency with several of the following, with willingness to cross-train on the rest: Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Postman.
  • Proficiency in Java and/or JavaScript for test automation.
  • Experience with API testing (REST/SOAP).
  • Experience integrating automation into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar).
  • Ability to work across varied tech stacks including microservices, legacy systems, and AWS cloud environments.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working with both technical (engineers) and non-technical (BAs) stakeholders.
Self-starter mentality - able to make decisions independently, manage their own workload within an ART, and know when to escalate.
  • Team player; thrives in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • We're especially interested in specific examples of how you've helped a team build a testing capability that outlasted your direct involvement.

No sponsorship requirement now or in the future.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience with qTest or similar test-case management platforms (Xray, Zephyr, TestRail).
  • Familiarity with BDD frameworks (Cucumber/Gherkin).
  • Familiarity with Karate or other API-focused test automation frameworks.
  • Background in insurance, financial services, or similarly regulated industries.
  • Agile/SAFe delivery experience.
  • Experience mentoring or upskilling less experienced team members or non-technical stakeholders on testing and automation practices.

We value diverse experience, skills, and passion for innovation. If your experience aligns with the listed requirements, please apply!
