Job description

This is a full-time onsite role based in Sunnyvale, CA; remote and hybrid options are not available.
About Team:
Our team collaborates with Walmart International, which has over 5,900 retail units operating outside of the United States under 55 banners in 26 countries including Africa, Argentina, Canada, Central America, Chile, China, India, Japan, and Mexico, to name a few. We work with international promotions and rewards on a real-time transaction rewards service that supports acquisition and retention of customers at scale.
What You'll Do:
  • Leads and participates in medium- to large-scale projects by reviewing project requirements, translating requirements into technical solutions, gathering requested information (e.g., design documents, product requirements, wireframes), writing and developing code, conducting unit testing, communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders, collaborating with project and cross-functional teams, troubleshooting open issues and bug fixes, ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs, interacting with the project manager to provide input on the project plan, and providing leadership to the project team.
  • Leads the work of small groups of four to six engineers, including offshore associates, for assigned engineering projects by providing pertinent documents, direction, and examples; identifying short- and long-term solutions and timelines; reviewing and providing feedback for proposed solutions; and performing design and code reviews of changes.
  • Troubleshoots business and production issues by gathering information (e.g., issue, impact, criticality, possible root cause); engaging support teams to assist in the resolution of issues; formulating an action plan; performing actions as designated in the plan; interpreting the results to determine further action; performing root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences of issues; and completing online documentation.
  • Provides support to the business by responding to users' questions, concerns, and issues (e.g., technical feasibility, implementation strategies); identifying short- and long-term solutions; facilitating resolutions; and leading cross-functional partnerships.
  • Leads the discovery phase of medium- to large-scale projects to develop high-level designs by partnering with product management, project management, business, and user experience teams, and obtaining cross-functional approvals.
  • Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales.
  • Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities.
  • Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports the company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans; using the Open Door Policy; and demonstrating and assisting others in applying these when executing business processes and practices.

What You'll Bring:
  • 6+ years of experience in backend engineering platform development.
  • 4+ years of experience in Java Spring, Spring Boot applications.
  • Strong core Java and J2EE knowledge.
  • In-depth understanding of Java Spring, Spring Boot applications.
  • Hands-on knowledge of building large-scale microservices for highly scalable and robust platforms.
  • In-depth understanding of NoSQL database implementations, like Cosmos, MongoDB, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of messaging systems like Kafka.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience with cloud systems like Azure, GCP.
  • Clear understanding of design principles for building large-scale, robust platforms.
  • Ability to understand a business requirement, convert it to a working low-level design, and implement with proper testing.
  • Ability to debug current code and integrate new functionalities to it by making sure new and existing use cases are working as expected.
  • Ability to come up with enough use cases for a customer functionality.
  • Ability to deliver quickly and efficiently without compromising code or functional quality.
