The Opportunity
The AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineer designs, builds, and supports AWS infrastructure and shared platform services for application and data workloads across development, test, staging, and production. The role emphasizes cloud administration, infrastructure automation, networking, security, reliability, and operational support. The engineer will work closely with application, data, security, and delivery teams to establish consistent cloud patterns and ensure that environments remain scalable, maintainable, and aligned with organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, provision, and maintain secure AWS environments across multiple accounts and lifecycle stages.
  • Develop reusable Terraform modules, maintain remote state, and support version-controlled infrastructure configurations and deployment standards.
  • Manage AWS compute, storage, database, container, serverless, and networking services.
  • Design and support VPCs, routing, security groups, load balancers, DNS, VPN, and private connectivity.
  • Implement scalable and highly available infrastructure using Auto Scaling, Multi-AZ, backup, and disaster recovery patterns.
  • Build and support CI/CD infrastructure and environment-promotion workflows, including self-hosted GitHub Actions runners on EC2.
  • Implement IAM, encryption, secrets management, logging, monitoring, alerting, and security baseline controls.
  • Monitor infrastructure, troubleshoot incidents, apply patches, validate backups, and improve performance and cost efficiency.
  • Support account governance, tagging, configuration compliance, capacity planning, and controlled infrastructure changes.
  • Create architecture diagrams, Terraform standards, operating procedures, troubleshooting guides, and disaster recovery documentation.
  • Evaluate AWS services and design options based on security, reliability, operational complexity, performance, and cost.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Required Skills and Experience
  • Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and administering AWS infrastructure.
  • Strong experience authoring and maintaining Terraform modules or comparable infrastructure-as-code solutions.
  • Working knowledge of core AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS or Aurora, VPC, IAM, Lambda, and CloudWatch.
  • Strong understanding of cloud networking, including routing, DNS, load balancing, firewalls, and private connectivity.
  • Experience with Docker and an AWS container platform such as ECS or EKS.
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and promoting infrastructure changes across multiple environments.
  • Knowledge of IAM, encryption, secrets management, monitoring, highly available architectures, and disaster recovery.
  • Experience troubleshooting production infrastructure, connectivity, permissions, capacity, or deployment issues.
  • Familiarity with Git workflows, scripting, configuration management, and automated infrastructure validation.
  • Strong communication and technical documentation skills.
  • Relevant AWS certification.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AWS Organizations, Control Tower, multi-account governance, or centralized networking.
  • Experience operating self-hosted CI/CD runners or GitHub Actions infrastructure.
  • Experience with observability, infrastructure security, or regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with data platforms, event-driven architectures, or hybrid cloud integrations.
  • Familiarity with CMS ARC-AMPE, NIST SP 800-53, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Experience implementing cloud controls that support security and compliance requirements.
