What is a Remote IRS job?

A Remote IRS job is a position with the Internal Revenue Service that allows employees to work from home or another remote location. These roles can include tax examiners, customer service representatives, auditors, and IT specialists. Remote IRS jobs require secure internet access and adherence to federal confidentiality regulations. Employees use IRS-approved systems to perform their duties while supporting taxpayers and ensuring compliance with tax laws.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Irs position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote IRS (Internal Revenue Service) Agent or Specialist, you need a solid understanding of tax laws, financial analysis, and investigative techniques, often supported by a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. Familiarity with IRS tax software, case management systems, and secure remote communication tools is essential for daily tasks. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and excellent interpersonal communication skills help you excel when working with taxpayers and team members remotely. These skills ensure efficient case resolution, compliance with regulations, and a positive experience for individuals seeking tax assistance.

What does a typical workday look like for a Remote IRS Agent?

A typical workday for a Remote IRS Agent involves reviewing and processing tax documents, conducting virtual interviews or audits with taxpayers, and collaborating with colleagues through secure online platforms. You may spend time researching tax laws, documenting case progress, and responding to taxpayer inquiries via phone or email. Most remote agents work independently while maintaining regular communication with their supervisor and team for support and updates on best practices. The role requires strong organization skills as you'll need to manage multiple cases simultaneously and meet important deadlines. Overall, you'll find the work both varied and intellectually engaging, with clear opportunities to make a meaningful impact.

Are IRS agents working from home?

IRS agents can work remotely, especially since the agency has adopted flexible work arrangements and telework policies. However, some roles may require in-office presence for audits, interviews, or sensitive tasks, and employees typically need relevant training and security clearances. Remote work availability depends on the specific position and current agency policies.

Job description

Remote | $80,000-$130,000 DOE | Full-Time

URGENT OPPORTUNITY - IMMEDIATE FILL

If you have been waiting for the right move, this is it - do not let this one pass you by.

Why This Role Is Different

Most tax resolution roles put you in a grind - high caseloads, little support, and a culture that treats overtime as the baseline. This one is different.

Our client is a high-growth, "Locally-Owned" SMB CPA and advisory firm that has posted 35-45% year-over-year growth for six consecutive years. They have built something genuinely rare: a firm where busy season stays under 45-50 hours per week, turnover runs below 8% in an industry averaging 18-22%, and the culture actually walks the walk on family and work-life balance.

They are growing fast and need a Tax Resolution Specialist who can hit the ground running and make an immediate impact.

About the Firm

This is a well-established CPA and advisory firm with a loyal and growing client base. Over the past six years, they have consistently grown 35-45% year over year while maintaining a culture that most firms only talk about:

• Turnover under 8% - roughly one-quarter of the industry average

• Busy season capped at under 50 hours per week for their professionals

• Family is a genuine priority, not a tagline

• 100% employer-paid benefits, 401(k), and unlimited PTO

• Compensation that has consistently been at or above market

People stay here. That does not happen by accident.

The Role

As the Tax Resolution Specialist, you will be the firm's dedicated expert for tax controversy, collections, and IRS and state resolution matters. This is a high-autonomy, high-impact role for someone who knows this space well and is ready to own it.

You will:

• Represent individual and business entity clients before the IRS and state taxing authorities

• Negotiate Offers in Compromise (OICs), installment agreements, and penalty abatements

• Handle voluntary disclosure matters at federal and state levels

• Analyze complex tax liabilities and develop tailored resolution strategies

• Advise clients on options, timelines, and risks with clarity and confidence

• Navigate CDP hearings, trust fund recovery matters, and collection due process procedures

• Collaborate with the firm's compliance and planning teams for holistic client service

• Stay current on IRS collections procedures, CSED rules, and evolving state requirements

What You Bring

Required:

• Active EA, CPA, or JD licensure - required for IRS representation

• 5-10+ years of experience in tax resolution, controversy, or collections

• Hands-on experience negotiating OICs and installment agreements

• Strong working knowledge of IRS collections process, IRM procedures, and CSED calculations

• Experience representing both individual (1040) and entity (1120/1065/etc.) clients

• Excellent written and verbal communication - you can clearly explain complex issues to stressed clients

• Self-directed and organized - you can manage a caseload remotely with minimal hand-holding

Preferred:

• Multi-state resolution and voluntary disclosure program experience

• Background in a CPA firm, tax advisory, or boutique resolution practice

• Familiarity with tax software platforms commonly used in CPA environments

Compensation and Benefits

• Base Salary: $80,000-$130,000, depending on experience and level

• Benefits: 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision

• Retirement: 401(k) plan

• Time Off: Unlimited PTO

• Location: Fully remote - work from anywhere in the United States

The Bottom Line

If you are a tax resolution professional who is tired of the chaos, the burnout, and firms that talk a good game but do not deliver - this is a different kind of opportunity. The growth is real. The culture is real. The benefits and compensation are competitive. And the need is urgent.

This is the move. Apply now.

To be considered, submit your resume and a brief note about your resolution experience. Qualified candidates will be contacted promptly.
