What is a remote IRS transfer pricing job?

Remote IRS transfer pricing jobs involve working from a remote location to analyze, document, and ensure compliance with transfer pricing regulations as set by the IRS. Professionals in these roles help multinational companies establish fair pricing for goods, services, or intellectual property transferred between their related entities in different countries. The main goal is to ensure that these transactions are conducted at arm's length and comply with IRS rules to avoid tax penalties. These jobs typically require expertise in tax law, economics, and international business, and may involve preparing transfer pricing documentation, conducting benchmarking studies, and supporting tax audits.

How does a remote IRS transfer pricing specialist typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and accurate documentation?

As a Remote IRS Transfer Pricing Specialist, you frequently work with tax, finance, and legal teams to gather and analyze intercompany transaction data, ensure documentation meets IRS regulations, and implement transfer pricing policies. Effective communication and project management skills are essential, as coordination is often done virtually through video calls, emails, and shared documents. You'll be responsible for interpreting complex guidelines, providing technical support during audits, and ensuring that transfer pricing documentation is comprehensive and up to date. This collaborative approach helps mitigate compliance risks and supports the company's global tax strategy.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote IRS transfer pricing specialist, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote IRS Transfer Pricing Specialist, you need strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of international tax law, and a background in accounting or economics—often supported by a relevant degree or CPA qualification. Familiarity with tax software, financial modeling tools, and databases like Bloomberg BNA or Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE is typically required. Exceptional attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to work independently are vital soft skills for remote collaboration and complex documentation. These competencies ensure accurate compliance, effective stakeholder communication, and successful navigation of complex cross-border tax regulations.

About the role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically strong Senior Revenue Accountant to join our growing finance team. In this role you will own end-to-end revenue accounting and reporting across our portfolio of licensed software, SaaS subscriptions, website development projects, implementation engagements, and ongoing support services. You will be a key voice in applying and evolving our ASC 606 policies, partnering cross-functionally with Sales, Legal, and FP&A, and serving as a subject-matter expert for internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
  • Own and maintain revenue recognition policies and procedures in accordance with ASC 606 across all revenue streams - licensed software, SaaS, website-based products, implementation, and support services.

  • Prepare and review monthly revenue journal entries, deferred revenue roll-forwards, and related account reconciliations.

  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of variable consideration, contract modifications, and multi-element arrangements.

  • Manage accounting for costs related to revenue-generating activities including costs to obtain and fulfill customer contracts (ASC 340-40), software publisher/royalty costs, and related capitalization and amortization schedules.

  • Monitor and reconcile deferred commission and contract cost balances; assess for impairment as needed.

  • Serve as an active contributor to the monthly and quarterly close process, including preparation of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance explanations.

  • Prepare and maintain bad debt reserve calculations; analyze aged accounts receivable and communicate trends to management.

  • Reconcile intercompany accounts, including transfer pricing, and investigate and resolve variances on a timely basis.

  • Support additional general ledger responsibilities and ad hoc accounting projects as assigned.

  • Support sales and use tax research, nexus analysis, and related accounting entries in partnership with Tax and outside advisors.

  • Partner with external auditors; prepare PBC schedules and respond to audit requests efficiently and accurately.

  • Collaborate with the billing, collections, sales operations and customer success teams to resolve customer accounting questions and billing disputes.

  • Work closely with FP&A and business leaders to provide revenue and gross margin reporting and analysis that supports decision-making.

  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with meaningful exposure to revenue recognition in a technology or software company.

  • Deep working knowledge of ASC 606, including multi-element arrangements, contract modifications, and principal vs. agent considerations.

  • Hands-on experience with revenue accounting across SaaS, subscription and perpetual licensing, professional services, and web-based product lines.

  • Solid understanding of ASC 340-40 contract cost accounting (costs to obtain and fulfill).

  • Experience with bad debt reserve methodologies (aging analysis, historical loss rates, specific identification).

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and review PBC schedules and support external audit processes.

  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, complex formulas); proficiency in a major ERP system (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar).

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders.

  • CPA preferred
