Remote Inventory Accountant information

What is a remote inventory accountant?

A Remote Inventory Accountant is a financial professional who manages and oversees a company's inventory records and accounting processes while working from a remote location. Their responsibilities typically include tracking inventory movements, reconciling discrepancies, ensuring accurate valuation, and preparing reports for management. They use accounting software and inventory management systems to perform their tasks and collaborate with other departments virtually. This role is important for businesses to maintain accurate financial records and optimize inventory levels. Remote Inventory Accountants need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with digital tools to succeed.

What are some common challenges faced by remote inventory accountants, and how can they be addressed?

Remote inventory accountants often face challenges related to real-time data access and communication with on-site teams. Since inventory management relies on accurate, up-to-date records, remote professionals must establish efficient digital workflows and maintain regular contact with warehouse staff to verify counts and investigate discrepancies. Utilizing cloud-based inventory management systems and scheduling frequent virtual check-ins can help bridge the gap, ensuring accuracy and fostering collaboration despite the physical distance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote inventory accountant?

To thrive as a Remote Inventory Accountant, you need strong accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and experience with inventory management, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Familiarity with ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel), and inventory tracking tools is commonly required, and a CPA certification can be advantageous. Excellent organizational skills, self-motivation, and clear communication are crucial for managing tasks independently and collaborating with remote teams. These competencies ensure accurate inventory valuation, compliance, and efficient reporting, all vital for maintaining financial integrity in distributed work environments.

Job description

Accounting Manager

Location: Canada | Remote
Department: Administration | Finance
Reports To: Urvi Shah, Assistant Controller
Type: Permanent | Full-Time
Vacancy Status: This is an active, approved role and we are currently hiring for this position.

About Solink

At Solink, our mission is to safeguard what matters most. We provide businesses with the tools to know sooner and act faster by transforming video security into real-time operational insights.

Our cloud-based platform integrates seamlessly with your existing cameras and systems, turning them into intelligent sensors that detect and interpret key moments. This empowers teams to make data-driven decisions, enhance security, and improve operational efficiency.

Trusted by over 30,000 locations across 32+ countries - including brands like McDonald’s and JYSK - Solink delivers clarity when it counts. Our solutions help businesses reduce shrink, optimize performance, and respond proactively to potential threats.

We're growing rapidly, earning industry recognition, and scaling with purpose. We’ve been recognized by Deloitte’s Fast 50™ and Fast 500™, Business Intelligence Group, and as one of Ottawa’s Best Places to Work. And we’re just getting started!

The Role

Solink is looking for an Accounting Manager to own and evolve our end-to-end financial reporting function. You're not just executing the close, you're the person who designs how the close, the reconciliations, and the audit process should work. You will build the systems, judgment, and people-guidance that make those outcomes repeatable without you in the room.

You'll operate across revenue (IFRS 15), inventory (IAS 2), and fixed assets (IAS 16) in a hybrid SaaS and hardware-enabled environment, and you'll be looked to as the technical accounting authority and a trusted advisor to the Assistant Controller and Controller on complex, high-stakes decisions.

The ideal candidate is a CPA with a strong technical foundation, several years past the "learning the ropes" stage, who is energized by ambiguity, comfortable making principled trade-offs under constraints, and motivated by building durable systems, not just closing the books faster this month.

What You'll Do

Financial Reporting & IFRS Compliance

  • Own the integrity of the full P&L and balance sheet, not just individual accounts

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS

  • Research and document accounting positions across IFRS 15, IAS 2, and IAS 16, and be the point person others escalate ambiguous transactions to

  • Translate complex or evolving transactions into clear, supportable, well-documented accounting treatments

  • Continuously evolve financial reporting practices for quality, accuracy, and scalability as the business grows in complexity

Audit & Compliance

  • Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors during interim and year-end audits

  • Own audit readiness as a system, not a scramble; build documentation and controls that hold up under scrutiny with minimal last-minute effort

  • Proactively identify structural audit risks before they surface in fieldwork, and address root causes rather than one-off findings

Revenue & Deferred Revenue Accounting

  • Own deferred revenue accounting end-to-end: completeness, accuracy, and cut-off

  • Ensure revenue recognition stays compliant with IFRS 15 as contract structures evolve, working ahead of the business rather than reacting to it

  • Partner with Billing and FP&A to validate billing schedules and contract modifications

  • Identify and drive automation opportunities in revenue tracking and reporting, reducing reliance on manual review

Inventory Management & Cost Accounting

  • Own accounting for inventory transactions, including valuation and reconciliation

  • Analyze inventory balances and movements (purchases, shipments, write-offs) and flag emerging risk patterns early

  • Ensure compliance with IAS 2 and company policy

  • Partner with Operations and Procurement to improve inventory visibility and controls, treating this as a cross-functional system rather than an accounting-only problem

Reconciliations & Financial Integrity

  • Own reconciliations of key balance sheet accounts - deferred revenue, inventory, accrued liabilities, intercompany balances

  • Investigate and resolve complex, cross-system variances, and use recurring issues as signal to redesign the underlying process

  • Build reconciliation processes designed for scale, not just for this quarter's volume

Month-End Close & Process Improvement

  • Lead key components of month-end close with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and predictability

  • Prepare journal entries, perform variance analysis, and support management reporting

  • Drive ERP and financial systems improvements (NetSuite, Salesforce, etc.) that reduce manual touchpoints and variability in outcomes

  • Regularly assess how changes in your domain ripple into adjacent systems (billing, FP&A, operations) and adjust designs to avoid downstream surprises

What You Bring

Must-Have

  • CPA designation

  • 6+ years of progressive experience across public accounting and/or high-growth environments, including experience mentoring or guiding less senior team members

  • Strong technical accounting foundation in IFRS, including IFRS 15 (Revenue Recognition), IAS 2 (Inventory), and IAS 16 (Property, Plant & Equipment)

  • Demonstrated experience owning external audit relationships and outcomes, not just supporting them

  • Track record of designing (not just executing) reconciliation and close processes that scale

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets

  • Strong analytical mindset with a demonstrated ability to make sound judgment calls in ambiguous or evolving situations, and to explain the trade-offs behind them

  • High ownership mentality & comfortable being accountable for outcomes with material consequences, including when things go wrong

  • Excellent communication skills, with experience advising or influencing stakeholders outside of accounting (e.g., FP&A, Operations, leadership)

  • Demonstrated interest in customer and business context. You are able to connect accounting decisions to long-term customer trust and business outcomes, not just technical correctness

Nice-to-Have
  • Experience in a startup or scaling SaaS / hardware environment

  • Familiarity with NetSuite, Salesforce, or similar ERP/CRM systems

  • Exposure to inventory models (3PL, consignment, dropship)

  • Experience introducing AI-enabled tools or workflows into a finance or accounting function

  • Track record of building governance frameworks, automation, or standardized processes that reduced variability across a team or department

Security Requirements
  • Candidates must undergo a criminal records check upon hire;

  • Be a Canadian Citizen (dual citizens included), or eligible to work in Canada;

  • Be willing to comply with Solink’s own security policies and standards.
