Remote Inventory Accountant information

What is a remote inventory accountant?

A Remote Inventory Accountant is a financial professional who manages and oversees a company's inventory records and accounting processes while working from a remote location. Their responsibilities typically include tracking inventory movements, reconciling discrepancies, ensuring accurate valuation, and preparing reports for management. They use accounting software and inventory management systems to perform their tasks and collaborate with other departments virtually. This role is important for businesses to maintain accurate financial records and optimize inventory levels. Remote Inventory Accountants need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with digital tools to succeed.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote inventory accountant?

To thrive as a Remote Inventory Accountant, you need strong accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and experience with inventory management, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. Familiarity with ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel), and inventory tracking tools is commonly required, and a CPA certification can be advantageous. Excellent organizational skills, self-motivation, and clear communication are crucial for managing tasks independently and collaborating with remote teams. These competencies ensure accurate inventory valuation, compliance, and efficient reporting, all vital for maintaining financial integrity in distributed work environments.

What are some common challenges faced by remote inventory accountants, and how can they be addressed?

Remote inventory accountants often face challenges related to real-time data access and communication with on-site teams. Since inventory management relies on accurate, up-to-date records, remote professionals must establish efficient digital workflows and maintain regular contact with warehouse staff to verify counts and investigate discrepancies. Utilizing cloud-based inventory management systems and scheduling frequent virtual check-ins can help bridge the gap, ensuring accuracy and fostering collaboration despite the physical distance.

Job description

Who we are

Helsing develops artificial intelligence-enabled capabilities to protect and defend democracies. We are growing our US operations, cultivating an ambitious and committed team of mission-driven professionals to apply their skills to solve challenging problems.

The role

As the Senior Accountant, you will be instrumental in defining and growing Helsing's US accounting organization from first principles. Your mission is to partner with the Director of Finance to develop, execute, and maintain accounting workflows which yield timely, auditable and accurate financial records. This position will involve partnership with teams throughout the business and offer high visibility to US leadership. You will have a critical role in enabling the key business operations which allow Helsing to answer the challenge of tomorrow's battlefield.

Preference to Martinsburg, WV.  Washington DC considered.

The day-to-day
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the US accounting function
  • Oversee inventory control and cost accounting for US manufacturing facilities
  • Prepare journal entries, review ledger postings for accuracy and completeness, and maintain the general ledger and sub-ledgers
  • Perform key aspects of the monthly close process including balance sheet reconciliations and flux analysis
  • Support external audit and due diligence requests
  • Provide hands-on support for the implementations of financial and information management systems (ERP, procure-to-pay, T&E management, etc.)
You should apply if you
  • Have 5+ years of progressive experience in corporate accounting - preferably within the Automotive, Aerospace, Defense, or National Security technology sector
  • Havea university degreein accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (especially Power Query)
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP including cash management, lease accounting, fixed asset management and revenue recognition principles
  • Have hands-on experience with ERP systems (NetSuite, SAP, etc.) and procure-to-pay systems
  • Are energized by ambiguity, thrive under pressure, and are motivated by mission-driven work
  • Are collaborative, humble, intellectually curious, and driven to solve hard problems

Note: We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet all the listed qualifications; ability and impact cannot be summarized in a few bullet points.

Nice to Have
  • Experiencing integrating agentic AI into accounting workflows
  • CPA license
  • US Security Clearance
Join Helsing and work with world-leading experts in their fields
  • Helsing's work is important. You'll be directly contributing to the protection of democratic countries while balancing both ethical and geopolitical concerns

  • The work is unique. We operate in a domain that has highly unusual technical requirements and constraints, and where robustness, safety, and ethical considerations are vital. You will face unique Engineering and AI challenges that make a meaningful impact in the world

  • Our work frequently takes us right up to the state of the art in technical innovation, be it reinforcement learning, distributed systems, generative AI, or deployment infrastructure. The defense industry is entering the most exciting phase of the technological development curve. Advances in our field of world are not incremental: Helsing is part of, and often leading, historic leaps forward

  • In our domain, success is a matter of order-of-magnitude improvements and novel capabilities. This means we take bets, aim high, and focus on big opportunities. Despite being a relatively young company, Helsing has already been selected for multiple significant government contracts

  • We actively encourage healthy, proactive, and diverse debate internally about what we do and how we choose to do it. Teams and individual engineers are trusted (and encouraged) to practice responsible autonomy and critical thinking, and to focus on outcomes, not conformity. At Helsing you will have a say in how we (and you!) work, the opportunity to engage on what does and doesn't work, and to take ownership of aspects of our culture that you care deeply about

What we offer
  • A focus on outcomes, not time-tracking

  • A generous compensation and benefits package (in addition to base salary) that includes, but may not be limited to, insurance coverage (medical and travel), flexible paid time off, paid holidays, and remote and/or hybrid work available depending on position. All compensation and benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of the underlying plans or programs, as applicable and as may be amended, terminated or superseded from time to time.

The base salary offered to the successful candidate will be determined by a variety of factors including relevant experience, qualifications, education, skill level, interview performance, and the level and scope of the position.
