Tax GPS Group

Contractor

Job description

About us

Tax GPS Group is a CPA-led boutique tax strategy and preparation firm. We work with business owners and individuals, and our focus is proactive planning, not just compliance. The short version of what we do: your CPA files your taxes, we find the money others miss. We're a small, fully remote team, and we care about getting the details right.

The role

We're bringing on an experienced senior tax preparer to help us through extension season, roughly now through mid-October, with the heaviest work leading up to the September 15 business deadline and the October 15 individual extension deadline. You'll prepare and finalize returns for a sophisticated client base, with final sign-off handled by our CPA.

This is a remote, part-time, 1099 contract engagement. Hours are flexible and driven by deadlines, so expect a heavier load as the September and October dates approach.

What you'll do

Prepare and finalize individual (1040) and business (1065, 1120-S, 1120) returns, including multi-state filings, along with the occasional trust and estate (1041) return. Organize workpapers and supporting schedules, resolve open items, and make sure each return is accurate and ready for final sign-off.

What we're looking for

A current PTIN. At least 5 years preparing both personal and business returns. Strong technical judgment and attention to detail on complex returns. Comfort working independently and hitting deadlines in a fully remote setting. Clear, professional communication. Experience with Drake is preferred, but if you're fluent in another professional package such as Lacerte, UltraTax, ProConnect, or CCH Axcess, we're confident you can pick up Drake quickly. You'll be handling sensitive client information, so discretion and secure document handling are essential.

Nice to have

A CPA or EA (preferred but not required), an AFSP Record of Completion, and experience with trust and estate returns (1041).

Details

Fully remote, US-based. 1099 independent contractor. $45 to $58 per hour, depending on experience. This is a seasonal engagement running through mid-October, with the potential to continue into the 2027 filing season for the right fit.

We'd love to hear from preparers who take pride in accurate work and enjoy a busy season.
