Job description

Remote Tax Preparer — Commission-Based

We are hiring an experienced U.S.-based Remote Tax Preparer to join our team on a commission basis. This is a year-round, remote contractor position preparing individual, business, corporate, non-profit, and agricultural tax returns.

We provide all the client work, while you focus on preparing accurate returns. Expect to handle 200–300 returns per year, with the potential to go higher than 300 based on your performance. Commission is paid after we collect from the client.

If you're looking for a flexible role where your experience is rewarded by output, this might be for you.

What You'll Do
● Prepare federal tax returns (1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, 990, 1041 etc.), state income tax returns, and Texas Franchise Tax returns as applicable.
● 1040 returns with schedule C and schedule F
● Ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely filing of all returns.
● Communicate directly with assigned clients via email, phone, or secure portal to obtain missing workpapers, ask follow-up questions needed to complete the return, and walk them through the finished return, including answering any questions they have about the return itself or changes in their tax liability.
● Log and track all client communications within our firm's practice management software, keeping records accurate and up to date.

● Work closely with our internal admin team, who support billing, collections, client onboarding, and document management so you can stay focused on preparing returns.
● Stay up-to-date on tax law changes and filing deadlines.
● Work within our systems: ATX, Drake, QuickBooks, TaxDome, Outlook, and Microsoft Teams.
● Annotate digital workpapers using Adobe Acrobat or an equivalent PDF annotation tool.
What You Get
● 20% commission-based compensation. Our average tax return is $375.
● Commission is paid once the client pays (we handle billing/collections).
● Steady volume: 200–300 returns annually, with the ability to go higher than 300 based on your performance (you won't have to find your own clients).
● Work from anywhere in the U.S.
● Flexible hours: work at your own pace, just meet deadlines.
● Access to our support team and systems, you're remote, but not alone.

Requirements
● Must have valid PTIN.
● Minimum 5+ years of tax prep experience across a variety of return types.
● Strong attention to detail and ability to self-manage workload.
● U.S.-based and authorized to work as a contractor (1099).
● Comfortable working remotely with professional communication skills and a client-first approach.
● Proficient in or willing to learn ATX, Drake, QuickBooks, and TaxDome.
● Access to the full Microsoft Office suite, including Excel and Word.
● Ability to annotate digital workpapers using Adobe Acrobat or a comparable PDF annotation tool.
● Reliable internet, secure home workspace, and strong time management.

Preferred But Not Required
● Enrolled Agent (EA) designation.
● Experience with ag-related returns or non-profit filings.
Compensation
● 20% commission, paid after client payment.
● Post October 15th bonus available based on performance.
● Post April 15th bonus available based on performance.

To Apply
Send your resume and a short message outlining your tax prep experience and current PTIN status. If you're ready to earn based on performance and want a steady stream of returns without chasing clients, we'd love to talk.
