Job description

Job Overview

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for all phases and implementation of large substation design projects, from inception through completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the client's specifications. This role involves coordinating multidisciplinary teams, including electrical, civil, and structural engineers, as well as interfacing with clients, vendors, and contractors. The Project Manager ensures compliance with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NERC, NEC), safety regulations, and company quality protocols while driving project profitability and client satisfaction.

A Day In The Life

Every day at Hubbell is different and you'll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you'll make a difference by: 

Develop project plans, schedules, and initial budget proposals
Define scope, milestones, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with client requirements and company objectives
Lead cross-functional teams (P&C, Station, and Quality Assurance), including engineers, designers, and drafters, assigning tasks and ensuring effective communication and collaboration
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing concerns, and presenting progress updates
Identify potential risks (technical, financial, scheduling) and implement mitigation strategies to keep projects on track as well as relaying potential resultant changes (e.g., scope change, milestone date delay) to customers
Collaborate with engineering team to ensure substation designs meet technical standards, Client standards, and project goals
Responsible for managing a portfolio of projects in varying size and complexity
Work within the department to develop and implement best practices and supporting tools to improve efficiency
Work safely in and around energized substations
Willingness to travel to project sites or client meetings as needed. (travel approximately 10% of the time)

Manages a portfolio of projects of varying size and complexity, driving consistent execution through clear communication, regular status reporting, cross-functional coordination, adherence to established processes, and proactive decision-making to meet customer delivery requirements, revenue targets, and on-time implementation goals.

Participate in various organizational initiatives including:
Support continuous improvement of project management processes, methodologies, and tools to improve execution efficiency
Participate in internal initiatives related to sales support, customer support, training, and engineering operations
Provide project management guidance and training as appropriate

What will help you thrive in this role?

Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Business.
5+ years of directly relevant experience managing engineering or infrastructure projects.
Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills combined with technical aptitude.
Excellent communication and presentation skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal).
Skilled in project planning and project management.
Adaptable, results oriented, and effective at managing change, with proven teambuilding capabilities.
Skilled at managing conflicts and effectively working through to quick resolution.


Preferred:
Active PMP certification.
Utility and energy industry experience, particularly related to transmission and 
distribution systems
