Job description

International Tax Manager | Remote

What if your next International Tax Manager role wasn't about replacing someone who left, but helping build something that's growing?

That's the opportunity here.

Benaiah Consulting Group is partnering with a well-established, locally owned accounting and advisory firm with more than 140 professionals as they continue expanding their international and cross-border tax practice.

The reason they're hiring is pretty simple:
The work is growing. The client base is growing. And they need another talented person who can grow with it.

The firm has an established international tax practice led by experienced leadership, including a Principal who has become a key resource for the firm's international and cross-border clients.

As that client base has expanded, so has the need for another layer of leadership.

That's where this role comes in.

This Isn't a "Sit Back and Review Returns" Manager Role

We're looking for an International Tax Manager who wants to be close to the work, close to clients and close to the people they're helping develop.

You'll become an important bridge between the firm's Principal and its staff and senior professionals, taking ownership of first-level reviews, working through complex international compliance matters, coaching team members and interacting directly with clients.

Sometimes you'll review.
Sometimes you'll advise.

And occasionally, when the work gets complicated, you'll roll up your sleeves and jump into the technical work yourself.

That's exactly the kind of Manager they're looking for.

What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll work across both individual and corporate international tax engagements, with the current client mix leaning approximately 60% individual and 40% corporate.

A significant part of the role will involve reviewing foreign reporting and international compliance, including:
• Forms 5471
• FinCEN Form 114
• Form 8938
• Forms 3520 and 3520-A
• Form 8621
• Other international reporting and compliance matters

But technical compliance is only part of the opportunity.

You'll also research and interpret U.S. tax treaties with foreign countries and participate in client consultations involving cross-border transactions and entity structures.

That means this role gives you the chance to continue moving from advisor to leader.
And that's an important distinction.

Who Could Be a Great Fit?
  • We're not necessarily looking for someone who has spent a decade sitting in the Manager chair.
  • In fact, someone with one to two years of Manager-level experience, or a strong emerging Manager who's ready for more ownership, could be an excellent fit.
  • You should already know international tax.
  • But equally important, you should enjoy helping other people become better at it.
  • You'll review work prepared by staff and seniors, provide feedback and review comments, help them work through complicated issues and become someone they can turn to when international tax gets, well, international-tax complicated.
  • You'll also interact directly with clients, so communication matters. A lot.
  • The right person can take a complicated international tax issue, understand it technically and then explain it to a client without making their eyes glaze over.
What We're Looking For
You'll likely bring:
• 5+ years of public accounting or tax experience
• Meaningful international and cross-border tax experience
• Active CPA or EA license
• Experience reviewing foreign reporting forms and international compliance
• Ability to research and interpret U.S. tax treaties
• Experience with cross-border and entity-structure matters
• Experience reviewing and providing feedback to staff and senior professionals
• Strong client-facing communication skills
• The ability to work independently while remaining highly connected to a team

A master's degree in Accounting or Taxation is preferred, but isn't the thing that's going to make or break the conversation.

And Yes, This Can Be Remote.

The firm is open to a remote International Tax Manager who can build strong relationships virtually and is willing to travel periodically when it makes sense to work alongside the team.

The preference is generally for someone in the Eastern or Central time zones, although exceptional international tax experience is ultimately more important than drawing an arbitrary line on a map.

Compensation
The anticipated compensation range is approximately $110,000 to $130,000+, depending upon experience.
And if your background warrants a different conversation, let's have it.
Because ultimately, this search isn't about finding somebody who checks every box on a job description.
It's about finding an international tax professional who looks at a growing practice and thinks:
I'd like to help build that.

Someone who wants sophisticated work without necessarily needing a massive national firm.
Someone who enjoys developing people.
Someone who wants direct access to experienced firm leadership.
And someone who would rather have an opportunity to grow into something than simply inherit somebody else's job.

If that's where you are in your career, we should probably talk.

You don't need to be actively looking.

You just need to be curious enough to have the conversation.
