Tetra Tech is adding an experienced leader to serve as a Senior Hydrogeologist (Seller-Doer) to support and expand our Environmental Investigation and Remediation practice throughout California, with potential growth into other regions across the United States. This role may be remote or hybrid, with access to our California offices.

Position Summary

The Senior Hydrogeologist (Seller-Doer) will provide technical leadership, business development, and project execution for environmental investigation and remediation programs. This role combines client-facing sales, technical excellence, and team leadership, and serves as a key contributor to regional and national growth.

Essential Job Functions:

Business Development

  • Build and expand an environmental investigation and remediation client portfolio through new client acquisition and repeat business.
  • Partner with National Account Managers to position Tetra Tech for multinational and strategic client opportunities.
  • Lead business development efforts within the Commercial, Industrial, Energy, and Transportation sectors.
  • Develop marketing strategies, proposals, technical presentations, trade show participation, and client meetings.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, regulators, and project stakeholders.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline-specific knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Leadership & Project Management

  • Manage staff workload including staffing plans, proposals, deliverables, QA/QC, and backlog forecasting.
  • Lead and motivate multidisciplinary project teams to meet project goals and milestones.
  • Direct and manage marketing and business development efforts within the Commercial Program practice.
  • Set and manage project expectations, budgets, schedules, and performance.
  • Serve as Project Manager for environmental investigation and remediation projects.

Hydrogeology Expertise

  • Provide hydrogeologic technical leadership to complex investigation and remediation projects.
  • Lead field hydrogeologic investigations including aquifer testing and site characterization.
  • Develop conceptual site models.
  • Prepare boring logs and well construction diagrams using gINT or similar software.
  • Apply groundwater modeling and fate and transport modeling.
  • Author and review technical reports, plans, memoranda, and specifications.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for clients, technical teams, and leadership.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or related field (required).
  • Professional Geologist (PG) or Certified Hydrogeologist (CHg) license in California (required).
  • 10-20 years of progressive consulting experience in geology/hydrogeology.
  • Demonstrated business development and client relationship experience.
  • Experience with CERCLA, RCRA, DTSC, California Water Board, and other CalEPA programs.
  • Ability to mentor and lead engineers, geologists, scientists, and technicians.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and perform under pressure.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or related field.
  • PMP Certification.
  • Experience with groundwater modeling and fate and transport modeling.
  • Experience leading large, multi-disciplinary remediation programs.
  • Experience working with public and private sector clients in California.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to conduct fieldwork at project sites, including standing, walking, bending, and climbing.
  • Ability to lift and carry field equipment up to approximately 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions during site investigations.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing office and computer-based work.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

  • Work may be performed in a combination of office, remote/home office, and field environments.
  • Field environments may include industrial facilities, active remediation sites, construction areas, and undeveloped terrain.
  • Travel for site visits, client meetings, and business development is required periodically.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and environmental hazards consistent with investigation and remediation work.

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $130,000-$180,000 yearly

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
