Job description

Our utility engineering and consulting client is seeking a full-time Power Market Project Consultant to provide power market analytics and modeling. They have a practice in the power supply planning area representing electric utility and renewable/battery developer clients in the procurement, planning, and management of power supply resources in U.S. markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare energy, capacity, and REC price forecasts, provide assessments of market fundamentals, analyze changing landscape of market design in power markets, and provide insight on changing market rules and their impact on client planning functions.
  • Use industry models and tools to perform detailed analytics.
  • Evaluate complex issues surrounding congestion costs and ARR/FTR positions.
  • Summarize modeling results for clients.
  • Develop expertise in a particular area and stay abreast of current topics to broaden and build upon knowledge.

Experience and Skills:

  • BS degree.
  • Experience in structured power markets (e.g. ERCOT, MISO, ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, SPP, CAISO, etc.). Familiarity with power markets within the Eastern Interconnection is preferred.
  • RTO experience with analyzing congestion, ARR/FTRs, resource adequacy requirements, and / or RPS requirements.
  • Experience with assessment and interpretation of regulatory and legislative rule-making and impacts on utility operations a plus.
  • Familiarity with modeling tools including economic analytical methods. Familiarity with production cost models preferred (e.g., Aurora, PLEXOS, PROMOD IV, GridView, Market Analytics, MIDAS, Dayzer).
  • Experience with R or Python a plus.
