Production Underwriting Professional

Commercial Property Catastrophe (Flood & Wind)

This is a remote position in the US

The Production Underwriting Professional is responsible for driving profitable growth and delivering specialized underwriting expertise for commercial property catastrophe exposures, with a primary focus on flood and wind coverages. This role evaluates, prices, and underwrites complex commercial property risks aligned with delegated underwriting authority while developing strong relationships with retail brokers, agents, and clients.

The ideal candidate combines technical underwriting expertise, strong sales and business development skills, and a disciplined approach to portfolio management. The position requires balancing new business production goals with underwriting profitability standards, ensuring that risks are appropriately structured, priced, and managed within established underwriting guidelines.

What the day will look like

Production & Business Development

  • Manage and triage new business submissions to grow a profitable portfolio of commercial property catastrophe business.  Including the prioritization of multiple submissions, outstanding quotes, additional information needed, and requests.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with insurance brokers, agents, and carrier partners.
  • Understand product features, underlying coverages, and authority limits to identify new business opportunities and expand existing client relationships.
  • Meet or exceed production, retention, and revenue objectives.

Underwriting & Risk Analysis

  • Understand multiple P&C coverage lines such as: Primary Flood, Excess Flood, Commercial Flood, NFIP guidelines, Deductible Buyback, and RCBAP
  • Analyze commercial property submissions with emphasis on flood and wind exposures.  Including the evaluation of insurance applications and related documents, including Elevation Certificates, loss data, Flood Risk Scores/Surge Reports, statement of values and other information needed to accurately evaluate and classify the degree of risk in relation to proposed coverage limits.
  • Evaluate catastrophe modeling outputs, loss histories, construction characteristics, occupancy, protection, and exposure data to prepare insurance quotes and proposals.
  • Assess coastal, inland flood, named storm, hurricane, and severe convective storm risks to provide recommendations for referrals to markets.
  • Structure coverage solutions and recommend appropriate limits, deductibles, and terms in accordance with delegated authority.

Operational Excellence

  • Maintain accurate documentation and underwriting files.
  • Utilize underwriting systems, catastrophe modeling platforms, and CRM tools effectively.  Including the Microsoft suite of tools, AI platforms, Salesforce, Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting authority, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and service delivery.
  • Candidate should be organized, able to prioritize work and possess effective time management skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work well with team members and co-workers in a virtual setting, participate in and support an underwriting team environment, advance your knowledge with formal educational courses, and interact with management.

Qualifications: 

Required

  • Experience underwriting commercial property insurance risks.
  • Knowledge of catastrophe coverages, including flood and wind exposures.
  • Strong analytical, sales, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to evaluate complex risk information and make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.

Preferred

  • Experience with CAT modeling tools and exposure management platforms.
  • Knowledge of coastal property risks, NFIP programs, excess flood markets, and wind underwriting practices.
  • Experience working with large schedule commercial property accounts.
  • P&C license preferred

Pay Transparency Laws:

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $60,000 to $70,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.  The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon’s annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary.  The amount of any [bonus] [production incentives] varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
