Responsibilities

We're seeking Underwriting Analysts at multiple levels to join our Commercial Lines Underwriting team. These positions play a key role in evaluating commercial insurance risks, supporting agency partners, and contributing to profitable growth across our underwriting portfolio.

Whether you're beginning your underwriting career or bringing advanced commercial lines expertise, you'll have the opportunity to develop your skills, expand your product knowledge, and work alongside experienced underwriting professionals in a collaborative environment.

Please note the position will be filled at a level (I,II, or III ) appropriate to the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Position Levels

Underwriting Analyst I

  • Developing proficiency in underwriting with responsibility for evaluating and servicing one line of business.
  • Builds foundational underwriting knowledge through training, coaching, and hands-on experience.
  • Works under moderate supervision while developing underwriting judgment and decision-making skills.

Underwriting Analyst II

  • Demonstrated ability to independently underwrite and manage multiple lines of business, typically including two product lines.
  • Exercises sound underwriting judgment and handles a broader range of account complexities.
  • Serves as a resource for less experienced team members and contributes to department objectives.

Underwriting Analyst III

  • Advanced underwriting expertise with the ability to independently evaluate and manage three core lines of business, including Workers' Compensation, Commercial Auto, and Businessowners Policy (BOP).
  • Handles complex underwriting scenarios and demonstrates a high level of technical proficiency.
  • Provides guidance and support to team members while helping ensure consistent application of underwriting standards.

What You'll Do

  • Review, evaluate, and underwrite commercial lines new business submissions in accordance with company guidelines and underwriting appetite.
  • Analyze risk characteristics, coverage needs, and pricing factors to make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Verify insured operations and exposures to ensure underwriting accuracy.
  • Review Loss Control inspection reports and determine appropriate underwriting actions.
  • Process endorsements, policy modifications, and other servicing requests for existing accounts.
  • Evaluate renewal business to support retention, profitability, and portfolio performance.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions and recommendations clearly and professionally to agency partners.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with agents through responsive service and collaboration.
  • Work closely with underwriting leadership and team members to address underwriting questions and complex situations.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to expand underwriting knowledge and technical expertise.
  • Maintain compliance with underwriting guidelines, company procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications

Underwriting Analyst I

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Previous insurance, customer service, financial services, or related business experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Eagerness to learn commercial insurance concepts and underwriting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Underwriting Analyst II

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Commercial lines insurance or underwriting experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently evaluate and manage multiple lines of business.
  • Working knowledge of commercial insurance coverages, policy language, and rating concepts.
  • Strong decision-making, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Professional insurance designation or progress toward designation preferred.

Underwriting Analyst III

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Significant commercial lines underwriting experience required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Workers' Compensation, Commercial Auto, and Businessowners Policy (BOP) coverages.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex underwriting decisions while balancing growth and profitability objectives.
  • Strong technical underwriting expertise and agency relationship management skills.
  • Professional insurance designations such as AU, CPCU, or similar credentials preferred.

Β Salary Range:Depending on qualifications and experience, this position may be filled at one of the following levels:
  • Underwriting Analyst I: $45,000 - $65,000
  • Underwriting Analyst II: $50,000 - $80,000
  • Underwriting Analyst III: $53,000 - $93,000

The annual base salary range posted represents a broad range of salaries around the U.S. and is subject to many factors including but not limited to credentials, education, experience, geographic location, job responsibilities, performance, skills and/or training.

The successful candidate is expected to work in one of our offices 3 days per week and also be available for travel as required
