Responsibilities

As a Data Product Manager at GUARD, you will own the business direction and value realization of domain data products. You will partner with underwriting, actuarial, and operational business leaders to identify high-value problems, shape product opportunities, prioritize investments, and lead cross-functional teams that deliver trusted, reusable data products for decision-making, operations, analytics, and AI readiness.

This is an opportunity to shape how an insurance carrier turns underwriting, actuarial, and operational expertise into reusable data products for analytics and AI. The role emphasizes product strategy, business partnership, discovery, adoption, and outcomes over agile ceremony ownership or backlog administration. You will turn complex insurance needs into trusted data products with clear business definitions, quality expectations, ownership, governance, and consumers.

As a Data Product Manager, you will:

  • Partner with underwriting, actuarial, and operational business leaders to identify high-value problems, decision needs, and opportunities for measurable business impact.
  • Shape product opportunities by defining the problem, target users, value proposition, success measures, adoption expectations, and prioritization rationale.
  • Define and manage product vision, roadmap, and priorities for domain data products, balancing value, feasibility, reuse, risk, rate and product considerations, and operational needs.
  • Lead discovery through stakeholder interviews, workshops, process analysis, user research, and validation of business needs.
  • Work with architects, engineers, analysts, and governance partners to define shared business concepts, semantic models, quality expectations, lineage, access controls, and reusable consumption patterns.
  • Lead cross-functional data product teams by setting direction, clarifying priorities, aligning stakeholders, and keeping the work focused on business outcomes.
  • Drive adoption by communicating product value, supporting rollout, gathering feedback, measuring usage, and ensuring products improve decisions or processes.
  • Ensure data products support reporting, analytics, operations, and AI use cases through trusted definitions, usability, quality, and governance.
Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in product management, data and analytics, business analysis, consulting, strategy, or a related field within the insurance industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of underwriting, actuarial, rate/product, portfolio, or underwriting operations processes.
  • Experience identifying business problems, shaping opportunities, and delivering insurance data solutions that support underwriting decisions, pricing analysis, portfolio insight, or operational execution.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to connect data capabilities to underwriting, actuarial, product, pricing, portfolio, or operational outcomes.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams through ambiguity, aligning stakeholders, and influencing without direct authority.
  • Experience facilitating workshops, interviews, discovery sessions, prioritization discussions, and product planning conversations.
  • Ability to translate between business needs and data or technical concepts to support shared understanding and sound decisions.
  • Ability to define product goals, success measures, roadmaps, adoption plans, and prioritization criteria.
  • Proven ability to adapt, solve problems, and make progress in a changing environment.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with data products, data mesh, semantic models, data governance, analytics platforms, or AI-ready data initiatives.
  • Technical fluency in data and analytics concepts, including data quality, lineage, access controls, business definitions, metrics, and consumption patterns.
  • Direct Property & Casualty experience in underwriting, actuarial, product, pricing, or portfolio management, with the ability to apply that knowledge to data product strategy and decision support.
  • Direct experience supporting underwriting operations such as home office underwriting, service underwriting, premium audit, loss control, or related operational underwriting functions.
  • Familiarity with agile or iterative delivery methods; the role is primarily focused on product strategy, discovery, stakeholder alignment, adoption, and value realization.
