Position Overview
Position: Instrumentation / Field Service Technician
Location: Western United States
Rust Automation & Controls is seeking a motivated Field Service Technician to support customers across the Western United States. This role focuses on hands-on instrumentation service, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair while working independently in a variety of industrial environments and collaborating with internal service and management teams.
Key objectives include:
  • Providing reliable and professional field service support to customers
  • Applying strong technical aptitude to instrumentation, calibration, and repair activities
  • Supporting customer operations through responsive, high-quality service execution
  • Adapting to varying industrial environments and customer site requirements

Role & Responsibilities
The Field Service Technician will support customers throughout the Rust Automation & Controls service region, working independently in the field while maintaining strong communication with internal teams.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Daily travel to a diverse customer base across multiple industrial environments
  • Applying instrumentation knowledge to troubleshoot, repair, and service equipment
  • Successful completion and application of apprenticeship-level instrumentation training
  • Adapting to customer-specific safety, operational, and environmental requirements
  • Performing hands-on troubleshooting, calibration, and repair activities
  • Utilizing hand tools and electronic testing equipment to diagnose and resolve issues
  • Maintaining professionalism, safety compliance, and quality standards in the field
  • Regional travel within the following states: UT, CA, CO, WY, NV, ID, MT, ND, HI

Qualifications & Profile
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement)
  • Associate Degree in a technical field (preferred)
  • Field service or industrial experience (preferred)
  • Instrumentation training or apprenticeship experience (preferred)
  • Calibration and/or metrology experience (preferred)
  • Safety certifications or credentials (preferred)

Skills & Competencies
  • Demonstrated basic electrical and mechanical knowledge
  • Knowledge of instrumentation systems (preferred)
  • Ability to use hand tools and electronic testing equipment
  • Strong computer proficiency and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Strong interpersonal and customer-facing communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
