What are Remote Infrastructure Software Engineers?

Remote Infrastructure Software Engineers are professionals who design, build, and maintain the core systems and services that support an organization's IT infrastructure, all while working remotely. They focus on ensuring that networks, servers, cloud environments, and related software are secure, scalable, and reliable. Their responsibilities may include automating deployment processes, managing cloud resources, monitoring system performance, and troubleshooting issues. By working remotely, they leverage various collaboration tools to communicate with teams and manage critical infrastructure from anywhere.

How does a Remote Infrastructure Software Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams in a distributed work environment?

Remote Infrastructure Software Engineers regularly work with DevOps, security, and development teams to ensure that infrastructure solutions are reliable and scalable. Collaboration often happens through daily stand-ups, code reviews, and shared documentation platforms, making strong communication skills essential. Tools like Slack, Jira, and Zoom are commonly used to bridge the distance and keep projects aligned. Successfully navigating time zone differences and asynchronous communication is a key part of the role, requiring proactive updates and flexibility.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Infrastructure Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Infrastructure Software Engineer, you need a strong background in software engineering, computer networking, and distributed systems, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or GCP), infrastructure-as-code tools (like Terraform or Ansible), and CI/CD systems is essential, along with relevant certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and self-management skills are crucial for collaborating effectively across distributed teams and handling complex remote projects. These skills ensure secure, reliable, and scalable systems that support business goals in a remote work environment.

Job description

The Position

Are you a versatile Software Engineer who values both writing clean feature code and building robust test automation frameworks? Contech Engineered Solutions is seeking a dual-discipline Software & Quality Engineer to join our technology team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between application development, quality assurance, and IT infrastructure, splitting your time evenly between engineering new software features and developing testing automation solutions. This is a full-time, in-office (5-days per week) position located at our West Chester, OH headquarters.  ONLY LOCAL CANDIDATES WILL BE CONSIDERED.

Sponsorship: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer. Contech Engineered Solutions does not provide current or future employment visa sponsorship (e.g., H-1B, TN, etc.) for this position.

Why Should You Apply?

  • High-Impact Collaboration: Work directly alongside business, engineering, and manufacturing leaders in an interactive, face-to-face team environment where technical alignment happens instantly.
  • True Work-Life Boundaries: Enjoy a dedicated in-office footprint that lets you collaborate intensely during the day and fully disconnect when you leave the office, eliminating the "always-on" creep of remote work.
  • Dual-Discipline Growth: Broaden your skillset across full-stack development, QA engineering, and IT/DevOps infrastructure within a stable, industry-leading organization.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Competitive compensation package with flexible options tailored to you and your family.

About the Role:

  • 50% Development / 50% Quality & IT.
  • Software Engineering: Design, develop, and maintain robust desktop (WPF/WinForms) and web applications within the Microsoft ecosystem based on business requirements.
  • Automation Ownership: Design, build, and implement modern automated testing frameworks, unit tests, and integration test suites to ensure application stability, resilience, and performance.
  • System Architecture & Optimization: Drive the modernization, performance tuning, and scaling of core business applications and complex SQL Server database frameworks (stored procedures, data models).
  • Technical Solutioning: Partner with cross-functional teams to translate complex manufacturing calculations and product criteria into automated, repeatable software logic.
  • IT & DevOps Collaboration: Assist in managing application lifecycle environments, establishing CI/CD deployment pipelines, and ensuring seamless software integration with internal network infrastructure.
  • Requirement Analysis: Gather technical specifications from business leaders, establish project scopes, and provide technical feasibility assessments.

Qualifications:

Required Technical Expertise:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related engineering field (or an equivalent combination of verified professional experience and education).
  • Development Ecosystem: Proven proficiency in C# development utilizing Visual Studio.
  • Desktop & Web Frameworks: Strong hands-on experience building user interfaces and applications using .NET WPF, WinForms, and modern API integrations.
  • Database Systems: Deep understanding of SQL Server, database design, query optimization, and T-SQL.·
  • Testing Principles: Demonstrated experience writing unit tests, integration tests, and building automated UI/API testing scripts.

Core Professional Competencies:

  • Leadership & Ownership: Ability to take complete ownership of product modules, manage project timelines autonomously, and drive projects to successful completion.
  • Analytical Problem Solving: Exceptional attention to detail with a logical, systematic approach to debugging, root-cause analysis, and performance bottlenecking.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and technical communication skills to translate complex code requirements into clear updates for non-technical business headers.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience setting up CI/CD workflows (Git, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Actions).
  • Familiarity with cloud environments (Azure/AWS) and web deployment technologies (ASP.NET, HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Familiarity with Python for scripting or test automation.· Exposure to engineering environments, CAD workflows, or design software (AutoCAD, Fusion 360, Inventor, or SolidWorks).Ready to Apply?
