We are SLR International, a 1,000+ North American team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Staff/ Project Air Quality Engineer or Scientist to join our expanding Air Quality Permitting and Compliance Team in Anchorage, Alaska. Preference will be given to candidates who reside in or are willing to relocate to Anchorage.


This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, problem solving, and outdoor field operations while supporting a variety of air quality, meteorological monitoring, and emissions testing projects across Alaska. This full-time position includes travel to remote locations throughout Alaska and offers the opportunity to work on unique projects in some of the state's most challenging and rewarding environments.

Required Technical Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate degree in Environmental Science, Engineering (Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline), Instrumentation Technology, Electronics Technology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • 0-5 years of experience in emissions testing, air quality and meteorological monitoring, environmental field services, industrial instrumentation, or related technical fields
  • Strong technical writing, proofreading, and reporting skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with environmental monitoring instrumentation and field measurement equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems (DAS), telemetry systems, and remote communications technologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair basic electrical, electronic, mechanical, and instrumentation systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and operating procedures.
  • Experience or coursework involving CEMS, ambient air monitoring, source emissions testing, or meteorological monitoring.
  • Experience installing, calibrating, and maintaining environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Familiarity with Alaska logistics, remote travel planning, and equipment mobilization.
  • Dangerous Goods shipping certification or experience (IATA, DOT).
  • Knowledge of air emissions calculations and environmental data analysis.
  • Familiarity with federal and state air quality regulations.
  • Familiarity with EPA reference methods and source emissions testing protocols.
  • Experience working in industrial facilities such as power generation, mining, oil and gas, or manufacturing. Understanding of industrial facility operations and safe work practices.
  • Experience using data management software, SCADA systems, or environmental databases.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to travel by aircraft, helicopter, boat, and vehicle, including overnight travel.
  • Ability to work in remote field locations for up to two consecutive weeks.
  • Ability to travel approximately 30% of the year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • A Participate in all aspects of environmental monitoring projects, including air quality, meteorological, emissions testing, and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
  • Assist with the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of monitoring equipment, remote power systems, telemetry, and communications systems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain field instrumentation and monitoring stations.
  • Prepare project-specific Quality Assurance (QA) plans, standard operating procedures, and testing plans.
  • Travel frequently to remote project locations to perform emissions testing, equipment installation, calibration, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Support project logistics, scheduling, equipment mobilization, and coordination efforts.
  • Collect, review, validate, and manage environmental monitoring data.
  • Analyze monitoring results and operating parameters and assist with technical reporting.
  • Maintain detailed field records and documentation.
  • Work closely with project managers and technical specialists to execute field programs and prepare client deliverables.
  • Follow company and client safety requirements while working in industrial and remote environments.
