Position Title: Community Canvasser (Kern County)

Department: Development

Location: Anaheim, CA (Remote in Kern County Area)

Reports To: Outreach Manager

Classification: Non-Exempt

Status: Part-Time, temporary from start date through April 12, 2027

Requirements: Driver's license and the ability to travel throughout Kern County is required.

Compensation: $19.56-$24.45/hourly

How You'll Make an Impact

The Community Canvasser will support CAIR-LA's community outreach and engagement efforts in Kern County by increasing awareness of CAIR's services, programs, and resources and strengthening relationships with local communities and partner organizations. The position will conduct direct outreach, participate in community events, engage community members, and help connect individuals with relevant CAIR-LA services.

The canvasser will also support immigration legal outreach by helping identify community members who may need legal assistance and connecting them with CAIR-LA's legal team.

In this role, you will:

  • Build and strengthen community relationships with local partners throughout Kern County. Coordinate and represent CAIR-LA at community events and programs. Engage volunteers through outreach efforts and ongoing engagement. Promote awareness of CAIR-LA's programs, services, and community resources.
  • Conduct immigration legal outreach and share information about available legal services and resources. Identify community members who may need immigration legal assistance and connect them with CAIR-LA's legal team. Support outreach for Know Your Rights presentations, legal workshops, clinics, and other community education activities.
  • Create and distribute outreach materials and maintain resources. Track partnerships, outreach activities, community contacts, and referrals. Attend trainings, meetings, and community events.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in community outreach, canvassing, organizing, community engagement, nonprofit organizations, and volunteer coordination.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to build relationships with community members, community organizations, faith-based institutions, businesses, and local partners.
  • Interest in CAIR's civil rights, immigrant rights, and community advocacy.
  • Ability to communicate information about CAIR-LA's programs and services clearly.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and collaborate with Development, Legal, and other CAIR-LA teams.
  • Availability to participate in occasional evening and weekend community events.
  • Demonstrated creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking experience.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and individuals from varied cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, SharePoint, and common cloud-based applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with and experience working within the American Muslim community.
  • Fluent/proficient in one of the following languages: Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, or Urdu.
  • A strong commitment to CAIR's mission and values.
  • Experience using social media platforms and digital communications tools.
  • Familiarity with Kern County communities.
