  • Please note, this position is NOT a remote/WFH opportunity. The location for this position will be Pennsauken - 6991 N. Park Drive.
  • Shift: 6:30p-7am
  • Hours: PT-18, 2 day/1 day rotation
  • Weekends/Holidays: Every third weekend requirement and every other holiday requirement. There are 6 holidays we observed in the year (NYD, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas).

Job Summary:
The Tele ICU RN is a system-wide role supporting coordination and delivery of high quality, patient-centered care by determining the predictable health status and health needs of patients through interpretation of health data and preventive practice in a virtual setting. The Tele-ICU RN supports care for intensive care unit (ICU) patients across all Virtua Hospitals. Utilizes remote technology to support the efforts of the primary nurse at the bedside and other on-site staff to provide individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care for patients using established nursing models. The work location will require working in a command center outside of a hospital; and/or may require working remotely.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Examines patient chart information regularly to assess patient condition, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status to primary nurse and/or other appropriate care team members.
  • Uses virtual conference tools to assess patient/family/caregiver's emotional response to illness, including expressed needs and coping mechanisms. Incorporates family/caregiver into plan of care.
  • Provides education to patients/families/caregivers through active teaching by virtual conference. Explains patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
  • Assesses patient environment for any safety risks and/or non-compliance with regulatory standards through virtual camera applications.
  • Manages evidence-based practices and continuous process improvement initiatives to meet and exceed quality measures and enhance the exceptional care provided to patients.
  • Completes virtual rounding on all ICU patients and with appropriate ICU staff.
  • Collaborates with virtual intensivist on call.
  • Identifies indicators of potential clinical deterioration and consults with care team to execute intervention measures.
  • Recognizes and responds virtually to crisis situations. Notifies appropriate individuals of actual or impending crisis.
  • Recognizes and reports errors and unusual occurrences. Analyzes and identifies precipitating factors.
  • Provides mentorship and peer support to clinical nurses as needed.
  • Utilizes patient chart information and participates in patient rounding through remote viewing.
  • Consults virtually with a multidisciplinary care team to coordinate, evaluate, customize, and deliver a holistic patient treatment plan that promotes and supports recovery.
  • Uses clinical judgment in collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team to recommend continuum of care programs during patient stay and after discharge.
  • Maintains clinical competencies to support the efforts of the clinical care team.
  • Serves as an example of professional nursing practice and promotes pride in nursing for the organization, the community, and the health care industry.
  • Participates as an engaged, active member of the health care team and positively promotes the rest of the team to patients/families/caregivers and other colleagues.
  • Maintains competencies for using and troubleshooting as appropriate all required remote technologies.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and demonstrates behaviors consistent with established policies/procedures

Position Qualifications Required:
Required Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of critical care nursing experience, 5 years preferred. Excellent communication skills, assessment skills, and clinical judgement required.
CCRN preferred
Required Education:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
BSN preferred.
Training / Certification / Licensure:
Current State of New Jersey nursing license to practice as a registered nurse. Current CPR certification BLS, ACLS. Relevant certification preferred.
Hourly Rate: $43.31 - $60.16The actual salary/rate will vary based on applicant's experience as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
