Our client seeks a skilled IBM Power Systems and AIX System Administrator to ensure stability, performance, and security across AIX and Linux environments. The role includes system monitoring, patch management, backup and recovery, firmware upgrades, and infrastructure maintenance. The administrator will support mission-critical systems, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and maintain compliance with organizational standards and best practices.

This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. For our w2 consultants, we offer a great benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits, 401k with company matching, and life insurance.

Responsibilities:
  • Administer and support IBM Power10 servers for high availability and optimized performance.
  • Manage and maintain HMC, including provisioning, LPAR configuration, and firmware updates.
  • Perform system builds, partitioning, and resource allocation across Power environments.
  • Plan and execute firmware and microcode upgrades for Power10 systems and related infrastructure.
  • Execute firmware upgrades for IBM Power10 systems (9105-42A).
  • Monitor AIX performance, including CPU, filesystem, and memory utilization.
  • Perform regular AIX patching and quarterly MKSYSB backup and recovery testing.
  • Administer and support Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems, including installations, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Automate patching with Ansible to maintain security and compliance.
  • Configure and support IBM V8000 and V9000 storage, including provisioning, replication, and tuning.
  • Manage SAN connectivity, zoning, and multipathing.
  • Implement and maintain replication technologies such as Metro Mirror and Global Mirror.
  • Collaborate with backup teams for integration and data protection.
  • Apply foundational Oracle Database 18c administration, SQL, and monitoring under guidance of senior DBAs.
  • Manage SSL certificates and administer user access with LDAP.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies, patching standards, and audit requirements.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, OS, and storage issues and coordinate with IBM support when needed.
  • Maintain documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with DBAs, network teams, and developers, and communicate with non-technical stakeholders.
Experience Requirements:
  • Proven Unix Systems Administrator or Engineer experience with AIX and Linux (RHEL).
  • Hands-on IBM Power Systems experience, including Power10, LPAR configuration, and VIOS.
  • Proficiency with HMC for provisioning, firmware updates, and capacity management.
  • Experience with IBM V8000 and V9000 storage, including provisioning, replication, and tuning.
  • Understanding of SAN technologies, including Fibre Channel, zoning, and multipathing.
  • Experience with system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery, including MKSYSB and storage-based replication.
  • Familiarity with enterprise security best practices, patch management, and compliance.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex infrastructure issues.
  • Effective written and verbal communication with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
