Remote Hydraulic System Design Engineer information

What does a remote hydraulic system design engineer do?

A Remote Hydraulic System Design Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing hydraulic systems used in machinery and equipment, often working from a remote location. Their duties include creating technical drawings, selecting hydraulic components, performing simulations, and collaborating with other engineers and clients through digital communication tools. They ensure that hydraulic systems meet performance, safety, and efficiency standards, and may also provide troubleshooting support and documentation. Working remotely, they use specialized software to design and model systems, making it possible to contribute to projects without being on-site.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote hydraulic system design engineer?

To thrive as a Remote Hydraulic System Design Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering, fluid dynamics, and hydraulic system design, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree and professional certification (e.g., PE or equivalent). Familiarity with CAD software (such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks), hydraulic simulation tools, and industry standards is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for collaborating remotely and managing complex projects. These skills ensure the engineer can design efficient, reliable hydraulic systems while coordinating effectively with global teams and meeting client requirements.

How does a remote hydraulic system design engineer typically collaborate with on-site teams during the project lifecycle?

As a Remote Hydraulic System Design Engineer, collaboration with on-site teams is often achieved through regular video conferences, shared digital platforms for design reviews, and cloud-based project management tools. Clear and proactive communication is essential to address any real-time issues that may arise during installation or testing. Engineers frequently participate in virtual walkthroughs, provide technical documentation, and offer remote troubleshooting support to ensure seamless coordination between design and implementation teams. This collaborative approach helps maintain project timelines and quality standards despite geographical separation.

What is the difference between Remote Hydraulic System Design Engineer vs Hydraulic Systems Technician?

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a MEP Design Engineer based in Netherlands.

As an MEP Design Engineer, you'll contribute to the technical development of a major AI data center project with significant power and infrastructure requirements.
You'll take responsibility for designing and reviewing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems supporting critical infrastructure.
Your work will directly influence reliability, energy efficiency, operational resilience, and regulatory compliance across the facility.
You'll collaborate with technology, IT infrastructure, suppliers, and engineering partners to integrate complex systems into a cohesive design.
The role covers everything from electrical distribution and cooling to fire protection, ventilation, and building management systems.
You'll also contribute to technical specifications, tender processes, vendor evaluations, and the ongoing development of the Basis of Design.
This is an opportunity to work on advanced infrastructure in a technically demanding, international, and fully remote environment.

Accountabilities
  • Develop and review electrical distribution systems, including medium- and low-voltage distribution, UPS systems, diesel generators, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
  • Design and review cooling and ventilation systems, including chillers, dry coolers, water towers, and liquid cooling solutions where applicable.
  • Coordinate modular facility architecture and ensure effective integration with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure.
  • Develop gas fire suppression, ventilation, and OT/IT integration systems, including BMS and DCIM solutions.
  • Review technical and design documentation provided by suppliers, contractors, and engineering partners, identifying risks, inconsistencies, and potential design gaps.
  • Ensure MEP solutions comply with applicable regulatory, safety, reliability, and energy-efficiency requirements.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update the Basis of Design and associated technical specifications.
  • Participate in tender processes and evaluate technical proposals from vendors supplying generators, UPS systems, chillers, switchgear, and other critical equipment.
  • Coordinate closely with IT Infrastructure teams to align power and cooling requirements with IT deployment needs.
  • Support technical coordination throughout the project lifecycle and contribute to resolving design and integration challenges.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of professional experience in MEP design for critical infrastructure or heavy-industry facilities, such as data centers, industrial plants, energy facilities, telecommunications infrastructure, or comparable environments.
  • Demonstrated experience designing cooling and ventilation systems; strong conventional HVAC experience is sufficient.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems used in critical infrastructure environments.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and relevant engineering calculation or design software.
  • Ability to review multidisciplinary technical documentation and identify engineering risks, discrepancies, and integration issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical requirements into practical design solutions.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with suppliers, engineering partners, IT teams, and other stakeholders.
  • English proficiency sufficient to work effectively with international teams and prepare or review technical project documentation.
  • Experience with Tier III/IV facilities is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of direct liquid cooling (DLC) systems or high-density computing environments is a plus.
  • Familiarity with EU or Polish electrical, building, and fire safety regulations is desirable.
  • Experience working with high-density GPU infrastructure such as NVIDIA GB200/GB300 is beneficial.
  • Polish language skills are an advantage.
  • Experience working on greenfield or brownfield projects through construction and implementation phases is highly valued.
Benefits
  • Full-time position with a fully remote working arrangement.
  • Opportunity to contribute to the development of large-scale AI data center infrastructure.
  • Exposure to advanced power, cooling, fire protection, and high-density computing technologies.
  • Broad technical scope spanning electrical, mechanical, ventilation, cooling, fire suppression, and OT/IT integration.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with international engineering teams, technology providers, vendors, and infrastructure specialists.
  • Significant involvement in technical specifications, equipment selection, tender processes, and design development.
  • Experience working on a major critical-infrastructure project with substantial capacity and long-term growth potential.
  • International and technically challenging working environment with opportunities to deepen expertise in next-generation data center design.
