Put your medical assistant background to work supporting Veterans' disability claims through documentation review, not direct patient care. Predictable Monday-Friday hours, no nights, weekends, or holidays. This is a defined 3-month contract, not a permanent role - a strong fit if you're between positions, recently stepped back from clinical work, or have benefits covered elsewhere.

Pay: $15.00-$18.00/hour, set by the federal Service Contract Act wage determination for your county of residence; confirmed during screening
Term: 3-month W2 contract (approximately 13 weeks); no benefits; no guarantee of extension
Location: Fully remote, U.S. residents only

Training: 5 days, Mon-Fri, 8:00 am-4:30 pm CST; mandatory, camera on, no absences
Shift: Choose 8:00 am-5:00 pm or 10:00 am-7:00 pm CST, Mon-Fri
Equipment: Laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headset provided
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Review medical documentation, lab results, and case files for completeness and accuracy ahead of disability exams
- Identify missing information or inconsistencies in records
- Communicate by phone and email with Veterans and providers (about half the role)
- Work within EMR systems and Microsoft Word to complete reviews
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- CMA strongly preferred, OR vocational/technical medical training (MA, LPN, HIT, EMT, military Medic/Corpsman), OR completed coursework in Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, Human Body Systems, and Common Diseases
- Strong medical terminology knowledge and EMR experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; typing speed of 40+ WPM
- U.S. citizenship; ability to pass a Public Trust background check (7-10 year lookback) and federal drug screening
- Dedicated, HIPAA-compliant home office with a door
- Hard-wired Ethernet with cable or fiber-optic internet (Wi-Fi-only, satellite, and hotspot connections like Starlink or T-Mobile Home Internet cannot be accommodated)
- Full availability for training and the entire 13-week contract, with no planned time off
NICE TO HAVE
Documentation review/QA background, behavioral health experience, disability claims or VA/military healthcare experience, home health or hospice background, prior remote work.
