Summary
In the Indian Health Service (IHS), the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is located at the Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility in Chinle, Arizona. The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Hospital Housekeeping Officer by supervising housekeeping staff and ensuring a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and employees in support of quality healthcare.
A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Custodian/Housekeeping Total Compensation

• Plans and directs housekeeping operations by determining staffing, assigning work, coordinating resources, and ensuring adequate supplies, equipment, and materials are available to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary healthcare environment.
• Supervises and evaluates housekeeping staff by assigning and monitoring work, conducting inspections, ensuring compliance with cleaning and sanitation standards, providing performance feedback, and taking appropriate personnel actions.
• Coordinates daily operations by adjusting staff assignments to meet workload and emergency needs, overseeing linen services and inventory, authorizing overtime when necessary, and ensuring efficient workflow.
• Performs administrative and operational duties by serving as shift supervisor, assuming supervisory responsibility in the absence of the Hospital Housekeeping Officer, reporting maintenance issues, and performing housekeeping duties as needed to support uninterrupted patient care.

Background Investigation Requirement:
This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.
A background investigation is a standard process used by the Federal Government to verify an individual's identity, employment history, education, and other relevant information to determine suitability for Federal service.
Upon receipt of instructions, applicants must complete all required background investigation forms within five (5) calendar days of issuance. Timely completion is critical to avoid delays in processing or a determination of unsuitability.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
There is no specific length of training or experience required: However, applicants will be rated on the basis of their responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision, and the information contained in their resume.
Physical Effort: Moderately physical effort is required to continuously perform manual cleaning tasks. Position requires walking, standing for long periods, bending, pulling, pushing, lifting, reaching, and climbing. There are occasional short periods of more physical effort when moving furniture, cabinets, and lifting items over 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Position works inside with adequate lighting and ventilation. Occasionally works outside when washing windows and when assigned to clinics outside of the main buildings. Will be exposed to some mechanical hazards, moving objects, crowded rooms, and wet slippery floor surfaces. Subject to cuts and bruises when lifting and moving heavy items, and minor shock when working with power machines. Subject to exposure to infectious diseases, danger of falling off stepladders when cleaning high areas, hanging draper or curtains.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
Education

• Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
• This position is ineligible for the Bargaining Unit.
• Physical Demands: The work involves walking, sitting, standing, reaching and bending in the assessment and treatment of patients.
