Home Study Assessor (DC, MD Foster Care)
Location: Washington, DC (Remote and local travel as needed)
Pay: $700 per completed Home Study (SAFE format)
Contract Type: 1099 - Independent Contractor
Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA) is seeking an experienced, licensed professional to support our Foster Care Services program in Washington, DC and Maryland. This contract role will focus on completing home study updates to assist with the re-licensing of foster homes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Complete comprehensive SAFE home study updates for re-licensing purposes
  • Submit written reports within 90 days of referral
  • Maintain communication with LSSNCA staff regarding case status and concerns
  • Support documentation collection for re-licensure as needed
  • Follow confidentiality and quality assurance protocols
  • Participate in occasional team meetings or trainings (virtually or in-person)

Contractor Requirements
  • Master's degree in Social Work or related field
  • Active DC and/or MD licensure (LMSW, LGSW, or higher)
  • SAFE Home Study training and 2+ years of experience required
  • Strong writing skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with culturally diverse populations and trauma-informed care
  • Must carry professional liability insurance ($1M/$2M coverage) and provide proof upon request
  • Background checks required in DC, MD

Compensation
  • $700 per completed home study (paid upon submission of final report and documentation)
